NUGGETS FROM REV. SAM ADEYEMI’S TEACHING: THE BENEFITS OF HUMILITY
We are going to be reading the book of 1 Peter 5:5-7.
- Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with Humility: for God resisteth the Proud, and giveth Grace to the Humble.
- Humble yourselves therefore under the Mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you in Due Time:
- Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
Why would God asked us to discuss this Topic at this time?
It must be for Promotion and that Promotion is so huge and so big that it will be enough to trip some People up.
God is going to lift some People up in a way that if you are not careful, you won’t be able to think correctly anymore.
For some People I think that it is money that is coming – Some amount you have never seen in your life before – Amen.
Pride is one of those behavioural trait which will make us as Human Being to Pray to God for Help daily because Pride is of the Product of Sinful Nature which every Human Being inherited.
All of us have the Capacity for Pride.
We are born with the Potential for Pride but Grateful since Jesus Christ died on our behalf, the Sinful Nature can be dealt with.
We need to quickly take advantage of the Provisions that God has made to help us cultivate His Own Nature which is Humility.
Infact, the higher you rise, the closer you come in Proximity to Pride.
Humility is the correct estimation of yourself in the light of your knowledge of Christ – Correct estimation of who you are in the knowledge of God or in the knowledge of Christ.
What do I mean?
When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, His death and resurrection becomes your Reality – They change or redefine your Identity.
If any man is in Christ he is a New Creature – 1 Corinthians 5:17.
I am Crucified with Christ nevertheless I live, yet it is no longer I that live; it is Christ that live in me – Galatians 2:20.
So, it changes the equation really – That is now Jesus Christ living in you. Your Identity is Changed, so your behaviour also Change.
Humility is correct estimation of yourself in the light of your knowledge of Christ and of God.
Overestimation of yourself is Pride.
For example, I can do all things – You can’t do all things.
Rather: I can do all things in Christ that strengthened me – Philippians 4: 13.
… That is Humility!
When you say Humility sometimes People think is underestimation of yourself – I’m nobody, useless, rotten, finished.
Excuse me, underestimation is not Humility – It is Stupidity!
So, Humility is correct estimation of yourself in the light of knowledge of Christ.
So, what are the benefits of Humility?
- God finds it easy to interact with you.
The Bible says God resist the Proud – That is what happened, that is the dynamic in the relationship between God and the Person who has Pride.
God resist the Proud and the Person who has Pride – God resist the Proud but gives Grace to the the Humble.
You cannot value a Person’s word more than the way you value the Person.
The respect that you give a Person is the respect that you give to the Person’s word.
So, God is saying here: If a Person respect me, the Person will respect my word.
If any Person believe that I know all things, the attitude will show in God’s Word.
Arguing with God’s Word is arguing with God.
And that is one of the basic Signs of Pride – Contesting what God said.
So, Pride shows up in our attitude to the Word of God and it shows up in our attitude in Prayer because Prayer is where we communicate with God.
Listen, when there is Pride and you hold a Higher Position than someone else, you know what you feel.
… How you feel that is not how it supposed to be – They deserved to be there.
And as long you believe they deserve to be there, you will do your best to lift them – You will keep them there.
That is the Structure we have in most of Undeveloped Countries.
It is not the fault of leaders that the masses are suffering – It is their Destiny.
You can be Powerful without flaunting your Power. You can be Powerful without robbing it in but rather using that Power to lift others up, to help others – And that is what Humility is about.
Just ask yourself who will you prefer to hang around with?
The Person who is always comparing himself or herself by your Success, threatened by your Testimonies.
Ok, you can feel it that the Person is threatened by yourself – When you share your dreams, the ten by ten dreams, the Person will help you to cut it to two and half.
Of course you don’t feel comfortable hanging around such a person – You Prefer to stay around the Person who encourages you, who inspires you and who compliment you.
You are looking good – This hairstyle is fine, I like that Perfume, that smell is nice.
The Proud Person finds it difficult to compliment anybody because he doesn’t want to say anything Good about you.
Sometimes, they will even think to themselves that: They don’t want to be Proud; that is why they don’t want to say anything. They don’t want it to get to your head.
- Humility helps you to handle Promotion better.
Some People who Pray for Promotion and even God knows if He answers their Prayers there will be Problems.
Paul the Apostle told Timothy in 1 Timothy 3 – That don’t put a Novice in office lest he be lifted up with pride.
That is it!
You don’t want to Promote someone beyond “Leadership Capacity” lest he be lifted up with Pride and falls into the condemnation of the devil.
Too many Ex- CEO, Ex- directors, Ex this, Ex that because as the People are being Promoted, the Promotion seems to validate their Position and their belief that they are better than others.
So, the higher they rise the “More Powerful” they become; the wealthier they become and they think it is God’s Validation of their Attitude.
And some People continue to rob People down, continue to treat People harshly, continue to enjoy the Power and they get Higher and Stronger until suddenly they fall down.
Some People can’t handle it when they loose that Position in twenty four (24) Hours – They are depressed.
All the People who used to crawl for them, who used to honour them, everybody disappeared – Then they find their correct level.
Because People tend to forget that they were not born with that title, they weren’t born with that money -The way it came it can go and ultimately it is God who give, we shouldn’t forget!
Humility helps us to manage Promotion better.
I think to someone: Your “Change of Status” is around the corner – Something is about to happen: It will create “Big Shift” in your life in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ – Amen.
… A Big shift I believed that this is what is coming – Amen.
Delayed Promotions are over; the days of Stagnations are over in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ – Amen.
