OPENING PRAYER:
Father, we lift up Your Name – the High and the Highest NAME!
We want to say THANK YOU. We appreciate Your Lordship over our lives, over the Churches, over our Nations, over our homes, over everyone that has been Part and Parcel of Digging Deep, and various Programmes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). We say THANK YOU!
You are worthy to be Praised, You are worthy to be Honoured.
We Thank You oh God for Salvation of Souls, Healings, Deliverances. Thank You for Provision, Thank You for opening even the barren womb.
We Bless Your Name for all the various Miracles that You have done – We say THANK YOU.
You are a Great God, and we Salute Your EXCELLENCY; God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
… Just take all the Glory today, in the Name of Jesus!
Lord, we are here today – There is nothing anyone can do WITHOUT God! And so Father, we Project You as our Lord. Who else can we Project but You?
And so Father, we ask because the Business of the Word of God is about You; just take over today!
That everyone who is Part of this Particular Programme or reading now on the Label of DMC – You will just help us to get the benefit of the Programme.
Let there be Healing, let there be Joy, let there be Salvation, let there be Anointing. Let everything work out for the benefit of the Kingdom and for our Privilege.

I confess I do not have any wisdom, I do not have any knowledge – I surrender my heart, my mouth and my head to You: that You will take over and everyone will get their Blessings.

Holy Spirit, we give You Glory and Honour.
In Jesus’ Mighty Name we Pray – AMEN!
We want to appreciate God once again! And we Thank the Lord for our father in Lord for giving us the opportunity to be able to do the needful. And for allowing us to do all what we are doing.
We want to Pray for our daddy – Sometimes the children Pray for their Parents.
We want to Pray for our daddy, that God will take him from one level of Glory to another – Amen!

Today, we will be looking at: “SPEAK THE GRACIOUS WORD SPRINKLED WITH INSIGHT.”
And we are going to read from: Colossians 4:6.
And I am going to read in three (3) different Versions of the Bible; so as to be able to get what we want to talk about.
I will be reading from Common English Bible, God’s Word Translation and King James Version.
From Common English Bible (CEB):
Your speech should always be Gracious and sprinkled with insight so that you may know how to respond to every Person.
From God’s Word Translation (GWT):
Everything you say should be kind and well thought out so that you know how to answer everyone.
And now King James Version:
Let your speech be always with Grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
The Lord Bless the Reading, and hearing of His Word, in the Name of JESUS – Amen!

Now, Word has POWER; and Proper use of Power requires WISDOM.
And we need to recognise the Positive uses of Power of words.
And we need to seek Divine direction especially in using words to say the right things.
In the word of Solomon, the great wise King in Proverbs 18:2.
This is what he said:
“Death and life are in the Power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
So, words can Produce different kinds of DEATH:
- Death of a Dream,
- Death of a Relationship,
- Death of Self image.
Word also can Produce LIFE to the hearers:
- It can give them hope for the future;
- And it can give them excitement about their Purpose;
- Make them feel Good and develop confidence in themselves.
And as Believers, the charge and the commission that we have, is: To be Messengers of LIFE and not Messengers of death.
So that we can Pass across LIFE to the People hearing us.
And that is where we read today – That our words must be SEASONED with Grace; SPRINKLED with great insight of Wisdom.
The Bible says (in the King James Version);
“Let your speech be always with Grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
He is not talking about speaking enticing words, flattery words and receptive words. But we should encourage other People to be able to do the needful.
So, words have impact more than you can ever imagine because it has Power of life, and it also has Power of death.
So, it is very Pertinent that when you speak; there are two (2) things you need to bear in Mind:
… Before I go into the Subheadings of today!
- Your word must be SEASONED with the WORD OF GOD.
Avoid offensive and destructive words against yourself and others.
- You need to SCREEN your word by the Word of God.
Avoid corrupt and immoral words in all your communication.
And as a Christian, what you say with your mouth can bring Healing, and it can also hurt People.
So, your mouth must be a Spring of Well, not a Garbage of gossip, not a Garbage of lies, falsehood and a Bucket of frustration.
But the question I want to Pose before we go to the subheading is?
Do you use your mouth to EDIFY, to BUILD UP or to DISCOURAGE?
Today we are going to look at this under THREE (3) SUBHEADINGS:
- CONTROLLING YOUR IMPULSES BY SPEAKING WISELY.
- CURTAILING YOUR BITTERNESS BY SPEAKING KINDLY.
- CORRECTING YOUR ATTITUDE BY SPEAKING GRACIOUSLY.
… Now, let me get to the act of the matter:
- CONTROLLING YOUR IMPULSES BY SPEAKING WISELY.
The Book of Proverbs 12:18 says: “There is that speaketh like the Piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.”
In this Book of Proverbs, Solomon grammatically Portrays how Powerful our speech could be – Reckless words are not things to be taken lightly. No!
We should take them very seriously because they have Power to wound and to Pierce like an arrow.
I. So, what are RECKLESS WORDS?
These are words you say without thinking – Impulsive words!
Word that you don’t check; that are released without exercising self control.
And every Human Being is likely to speak recklessly when you are tired, when fagged out, when at the low ebb of life, when one is confused.
II. What are HEALING WORDS?
They are words of the wise; words that are carefully chosen. That those who hear the words are Edified.
And why is it so important to exercise Self Control?
James 1:26 gives us an answer: “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.”
So, exercise Self Control – It is very, very crucial.
We need to Pray for restrain, so as to Pause before we speak.
I like the Man of God called David – In Psalms 141:3, this is why David said: “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.”
King Solomon, in Proverbs 16:23 said:
“The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.”
So, don’t hurt People through speaking; because People get more hurt by reckless words.
And in the world we live today, so many People are hurting.
And we can see the example of reckless words in the life of one of the brothers of David.
In 1 Samuel 17:17-29, Eliab (the elder brother of David) said: “What have you come to do here?
“And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”
In 1 Samuel 17:33-37, King Saul said the same thing concerning David. But David convinced him with his Testimony;
“Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.”
And King Saul Prayed for him: “And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.”
… And that is a Good example!
Now, you can get an example of those who speak before thinking from that man that came to Jesus in Luke 9:57-58 (it is good to read to the end of that Chapter).
“And it came to Pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.”
Now, there are seven (7) things I need to quickly download, under Subheading 1.
You need to Avoid Unwise Speaking, such as:
I. Blaming God when you are tempted to do Wrong.
James 1:13-14 says: “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.”
II. Speaking Hypocritical words.
James 1:26 says: “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.”
III. Expressing discrimination between the rich and the poor.
… Especially among fellow Believers.
James 2:1-4 says: Discrimination between Peoples’ Colour, Races, and Status in life, is not Christlike.
The reason for Apartheid is thinking that one Race is better than the other.
Is it not happening in Nations of the world?
But it ought not happen among Believers.
IV. Speaking Unsympathetically to those in Need – James 2:15-16.
With so much Poverty in the world, and many People are hurting. Don’t let us add to their Plight by Passing careless comments.
V. Boasting and Flattering – Causes Destructive Fire – James 3:5.
Just one careless word can upset a family in the Church.
Please, let us avoid all of these.
VI. Grumbling against each other – James 4:12,
The Book of Romans 14:12-13, in the Moffatt Translation:
“Each of us will have to answer for himself to God. So STOP criticizing one another.”
… That is the summary of what it says.
VII. Swearing or Blaspheming – James 5:12
Many who are Non Christians, are guilty of this.
Listen to what 1 Peter 3:10 says:
“For he that will love life, and see Good days, let him REFRAIN his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:”
I Pray today even as you read on the Label of DMC, that in the Name above other names; the Power to keep our tongue in check, God will give unto us, in the NAME OF JESUS – Amen!
- CURTAILING YOUR BITTERNESS BY SPEAKING KINDLY.
That is in Proverbs 15:4: “A wholesome tongue is a TREE OF LIFE:”
When you speak word of kindness, it has dramatic impact in the Healing of People.
… The Bible compared this to a ‘Tree of Life.’
A Tree of Life talks about IMMORTALITY. On the other hand: What has no ability to DIE in a hurry.
So, the word you speak can be a Tree of Life – And it can grief the Spirit. It can break the heart of People, wound them and maim them.
So, the Tongue has Power to cripple People PERMANENTLY.
When you are most likely to speak damaging words, you need to find out:
- Is there something against this fellow in my heart?
- Maybe, you need to check whether there is unforgiveness somewhere.
James Chapter 4 talks about People who are selfish, who have unforgiving spirit – Out of that comes all these words.
So, if you have a self centered desire, you are likely to speak hurtful words.
And the Book of Ephesians 4:31-32 (in summary) says: Let bitterness, wrath and anger be put away!
The key to be able to speak kindly and be an Agent of Healing and Life to others, is to stay clear of bitterness in your Relationship.
… And this can only be done when you forgive THOROUGHLY.
So, don’t hurt People by your word of bitterness. Release them in forgiveness; give Life, give Healing by the words of kindness from your mouth.
I mean: Just because Haman was angry (you remember the story of Haman, Mordecai and Esther?)
Because he (Haman) was angry with Mordecai, he spoke to the King: King, I want to pay you fantastic Revenue, if you can destroy all the Jews.
But you know the outcome?
He eventually was hung in the gallow which he Prepared for Mordecai.
In the Book of Esther 3:8-11; that is where the story started from.
… You know the end of Haman!
Now, when you look at a man in the Bible called Nabal – Speaking in bitterness against David:
“And Nabal answered David’s servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master.” 1 Samuel 25:9-11.
Before you speak:
I. Make sure it is well thought out – Ruminate on it!*
II. Make sure that you think thoroughly through before you release the word – Very Important!
… So, you need to CURTAIL your bitterness by speaking KINDLY.
- CORRECTING YOUR ATTITUDE BY SPEAKING GRACIOUSLY.
Proverbs 16:24 says: “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, SWEET to the Soul, and health to the bones.”
When searching for an image for Pleasant words, Solomon chose HONEY – Sweet to the taste and Healing to the body.
… Pleasant words are sweet to the Soul.
When you are around someone who is habitually Negative – Whose words are not Pleasant and sweet to the soul; you can be sure that inside of that fellow is not Pleasant.
In fact the Bible tells us in Matthew 15:18, it says: “But those things which Proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.”
If you are to examine your own words and put the Positive and Negative side BY side – Would your Positive words weigh more than the Negative?
… Very, very crucial – We need to bear this in Mind!
If you have to admit that you tend to be more Negative; what you need to do is NOT a Resolution!
Resolution is Good but what you need to do is what the Book of Ezekiel 18:31 says: “Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a New Heart and a New Spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”
But what David did was a Good one.
In Psalms 51:10 he said: “Create in me a CLEAN HEART, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Once you have your heart right with God, everything that is coming out of your mouth will also be Pleasant; will be Sweeter, will be Healing Balm, will be Encouraging to everyone that hears you.
Don’t you want a very Sweet, Perfect, Healing, Encouraging, Uplifting words to come out of your mouth?
Your word has to bring Encouragement, not discouragement.
You must be an Encourager – Find a way you can use words of Encouragement to lift People up!
You can see what Abigail (the wife of Nabal) did!
David would have destroyed the family; but the words of Abigail Pacified David.
In 1 Samuel 25:14-33; she (Abigail) went to David and said: Please, don’t be angry, that is the way the man is. I just beg of you, don’t because of him destroy the entire family.
So, Good words have a way of bringing Joy.
There is a King in the Bible, whose approach I love.
The approach of this Particular King, they call his name Dairus.
Now, when you look at the story very well – Dairus spoke to Daniel: Even though he had to unavoidably throw him into the lion’s den.
… Because that was the Law of the Land!
Now, he had different attitude from the others.
He said throw him in; but he spoke sweet words to Daniel – You can read that in Daniel 6:14-17.
If you don’t get anything from all I have already said, because I have mentioned that:
- You need to control your Impulses by speaking WISELY;
- Curtailing your bitterness by speaking KINDLY;
- Correcting your attitude by speaking GRACIOUSLY.
… But there are few tips; may be I will narrow it to three (3).
THREE (3) TIPS TO SPEAKING GRACIOUS WORDS:
- You must watch your THOUGHTS.
In other to control your mouth, you must first control your thought.
Right and Wrong thinking are the basis of controlling your words; and it is the simplest Principle.
But it is difficult for People to maintain in life.
No wonder, whenever the enemy intends to attack anyone: Attack his life, attack his Integrity – They go through his THOUGHT.
And God has an answer for us in the Book of 2 Corinthians 10:5.
Because God has made Provision, He said:
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into Captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
No wonder, any time you really want to CONQUER, you have to go through the Spirit.
The Bible speak of thought and imagination. Somebody may ask:
Where Do THOUGHTS Come From?
The answer is simple – The Bible gives us an answer: Thoughts come from three (3) Places:
I. From the five (5) Senses.
II. From the Devil.
III. From the Holy Spirit.
The devil utilizes our five (5) Senses to Pollute our Thought. And once the devil gets a hold on this, People are not easily free.
In Romans Chapter 8; it says: The Natural Mind alone cannot know God, for God speaks through our Spirit, and the Spirit speaks the Mind of God.
Whether or not: Your Thought will be Clean or Polluted, you have to think in the Spirit.
Because once you allow your senses to be taken over by the Spirit, then you think in the Spirit.
But once you allow the devil to take over, it will affect what you say Negatively.
So, the Good News is: You can have VICTORY over your Thought. You can Reprogram your Mind.
In one of the Digging Deep we Studied here: We have talked about: reprogramming THE COMPUTER OF YOUR MIND.

Because what the devil target in not so much of your body: People cannot be sick without their heart, People cannot be poor without their heart, People cannot be victim without their heart.
The People that went to examine the land said: We THOUGHT and we saw.
You still remember that three (3) ‘S’ – You See it, you Say it and you Seize it.
This comes from the Mind – So, you need to WATCH your thoughts!
- You must watch your MOUTH.
If you think about it: Believing God and His Words is not nearly as hard as disciplining our tongue to speak in line with those Words.
We must guard the words we SPEAK.
In Colossians 4:6 (our Main Text). It says:
“Let your speech be alway with Grace, SEASONED with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
Listen to me, in Ephesians 4:29-31: “Let no corrupt Communication Proceed out of your mouth, but that which is Good to the use of edifying, that it may minister Grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:”
What comes out of your mouth is as result of what you put in your heart.
I Pray today and even as you read on the Label of DMC: The God who Sanctify the heart, the God who can do all things – I Pray sincerely from my heart: He will Sanctify our heart, and He will sanctify our Thoughts.
Now, I want to read from Proverbs 16:23 – “The heart of the Wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.”
In Proverbs 18:20; the Bible says: “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.”
Proverbs 21:23 says: “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his Soul from troubles.”
… Please, watch your MOUTH!
- Let your words be FEW.
Watch your Thoughts, watch your mouth and LET YOUR WORDS BE FEW
Acts 8:32 says: “… He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:”
Jesus, when He was arrested, He could defend Himself – but He did not!
When they asked Him in John 18:5-6: “Then answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am He. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am He, they went backward, and fell to the ground.”
… He did not open His mouth!
I like 1 Peter 2:23 – Look at what it says: “Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to Him that judgeth righteously:”
In Ecclesiastes 5:2 – This is the Summary: Let your words be FEW.
Proverbs 13:3 says: “He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.”
I like James 1:19. It says: “Wherefore, my beloved Brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”
In Proverbs 17:28, the Bible says: “Even a fool, when he holdeth his Peace, is counted Wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.”
And Proverbs 10:19 says: “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.”
Sometimes you need to keep quiet, because Proverbs 18:4 says: “The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.”
Read also Ephesians 4:31-32, Proverbs 16:24, and Ephesian 4:29.
So, it very important that we keep our mouth, and make our words very, very few.
Matthew 12:36 says: “But I say unto you, (that is Jesus talking) That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of Judgment.”
Let me conclude: We have uncovered some strong description for our mouth in the Book of Proverbs.
Solomon told us that you need correct, control your mode, in other to speak. And it is only from a Clean Heart that clean words would come out.
Let me read to you Ephesians 4:29 (and I will use that to close) – Look at what it says:
“Let no corrupt communication Proceed out of your mouth, but that which is Good to the use of edifying, that it may Minister Grace unto the hearers.”
There is no better summary of everything we have talked about that will not be found in this verse.
I don’t know what your word looks like. But listen to all we have said; that there is a need for us to speak as an Oracle of God.
Don’t just SPEAK: You need to control your impulses by speaking WISELY; you need to curtail your bitterness by speaking KINDLY and you need to correct your attitude by speaking GRACIOUSLY.
I Pray today and even as you read on the Label of DMC: The Almighty God who owns His Words will CLEANSE us by His Spirit.
I don’t know the house that you have Pulled down, I don’t know how you have hurt People, I don’t know what you have in Mind, I don’t know how many People who have offended you.
But today, you can make correction: God, CLEANSE my heart, let every words from me bring Courage.
ALTAR CALL
And for the People who are not Born Again, Please it is your time to surrender your life to Jesus Christ.
I will Pray with you – Wherever you are or reading now on the Label of DMC, let us bow our head in Prayer:
Talk to the Lord, and say: God, heal my heart, heal my mouth.
And those of us who want to be Born Again, say: Lord, come into my life so that my Thoughts, my Life can be Sanctified.
… And I know that something Unusual will come to you.

PRAYER FOR SALVATION AND CLOSING PRAYER.
Lord, we Thank You for all the People that are Praying;
I Pray for all our brothers and sisters – Our Brethren who are giving their lives. Please, save them today.
Lord Almighty, let the Blood of Jesus cleanse their lives, cleanse their thoughts, cleanse their fives (5) Senses and let the Spirit of God reign in their life.
Every Believers who is living in Bitterness, I Pray today: Let the Power of the Word of God heal them!
And from today, let there be Restitution; Give them the Courage and Grace to Restitute.
Thank You our Maker! We love You because it is done.
When the Roll is called up in Heaven, all of us – Let us make it there!
Thank You Eternal Father!
