OPENING PRAYER
Ancient of Days, we worship You.
Our Saviour, our Redeemer, our Healer, our Deliverer, our Provider, our Protector, our All in All, our Hope of Glory – We worship You. May Your Name forever be Glorified.
Father today, even as Your Children will be listening to Your Words, Glorify Your Name. Let the Power in Your Words do something in their lives that will cause them to Glorify Your Name.
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah.
We will continue with our Series on “Going Higher” as we move into Part 39 – Going Higher (Part 39).
And very reluctantly, we have to move on to 1 Kings 18:42 – We have spent quite a lot of time in Verse 41. We don’t know how long we will be in Verse 42 but we shall see.
1 Kings 18:42 – So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the Earth, and put his face between his knees.
The first thing you will find in this Verse must be quite a surprise to you as it was to me the first time I started Digging Deep on this Story.
… So, Ahab went up to eat and to drink.
I want to say that I don’t think that I have any interest in this Man called Ahab.
I mean look at a Man who has spent a whole day in the Presence of the Supernatural – Here is a King of a Nation, who has seen the raw manifestation of the Power of God; who has seen a Man of God Praying for 2 Minutes and Fire fell.
And the Next thing he wanted to do is to eat and drink.
He couldn’t even say: You said that there is going to be a Sound of Abundance of Rain; I think that I will wait for the Rain – No, he went to drink and to eat.
The first time that I saw a Man of God Performing Miracles – And I mean raw manifestation of the Power of God; I wasn’t hungry for food. I was hungry for Anointing.
The first time that I saw Billy Graham Preached and it was in London – And he Preached a Sermon; the kind that any of my Sunday School Teachers could Preach.
And then he gave an Altar Call and I saw the crowd forging forward – I wasn’t hungry for food, I was hungry for Anointing.
DMC NOTES: William Franklin Graham Jr. was an American Evangelist, a Prominent Evangelical Christian figure, and an Ordained Southern Baptist Minister who became well known internationally in the late 1940s. One of his Biographers has Placed him “among the most influential Christian Leaders” of the 20th Century.
The first time that I visited Yonggi Cho of Blessed Memory and I saw a Man telling the Congregation – Those of you who has come to Church this Sunday; Please don’t come next Sunday so that those who could not come in today will be able to come in Next Sunday; in an Auditorium that could sit 50,000 People, holding Multiple Services on Sunday – I was not hungry for food; I was hungry for Anointing.
DMC NOTES: Yoido Full Gospel Church is a Pentecostal Church affiliated with the Assemblies of God on Yeouido (Yoi Island) in Seoul, South Korea. You know that our Elders has a Saying that: It is what you are hungry for that will be Plenty in your Treasury.
I don’t think that I want to spend too much time with this Man
Why? – And take this as my Advise: Don’t spend time with those who are not going anywhere.
Because in Amos 3:3; it says that: Birds of the same feather flocks together. They say that show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.
And Proverbs 13:20 says: If you walk with the Wise, you will be Wise. But if you are in the Companion of fools, you are going to be destroyed.
- It should be a Big Lesson to you: If you are going somewhere and you are doing something for your God and some People are not going anywhere and they are criticising you; ignore them. Don’t waste time with those who are not going anywhere.
- Another Big Lesson to learn of course is that: This Man quickly went to eat and to drink – The Easy Way is always Downhill.
You want to go Uphill, there must be “Self Discipline”.
Jesus Christ said in Matthew 7: 13-14; He said: Broad is the Way.
… Wide – There are many People who will find that Way because it leads to Destruction.
He said: Narrow is the Way, Straight is the Gate that goes to Eternal Life; and few could find it
If you want to Climb, you want to go Higher; get ready for “Self Discipline”.
Apostle Paul said that: I Press on.
Pressing On means that you are overcoming Resistance.
… Climbing takes an Effect.
So, I don’t want to spend too much time with Ahab, let me go to my friend – Elijah.
The Bible said in the Passage that we have read that he (Elijah) went up to the Top of Mount Carmel – He was a Mountain Climber!
The Question now that will come to your Mind of course is: Why did he go up? Because God can hear you anywhere.
Do you have to Climb a Mountain to Pray? Will God only hear you when you are on the Mountaintop?
The Bible says in Psalms 139: 7-12 – It says that God is everywhere – He is at the bottom of the Ocean, He is at the Top of the Mountain and so He can hear you anywhere.
In Genesis 18: 1-14; Abraham was sitting Infront of his Tent and God spoke to him there.
In 1 Kings 17: 2-6; the Bible says that God spoke to Elijah in the Palace.
So, God can speak to you in your own house, He can speak to you in the State House if you are visiting.
In 1 Kings 17: 8-16; God spoke to Elijah by the Brook Side – He was there in the bush and God spoke to him there.
God can speak to you in His House – 1 Samuel 3: 1-14; Samuel was on his bed in the House of God when God called him.
So, you don’t have to go to the Mountain before God can hear you!
However, Mountaintop surely has Advantages no doubt about it.
I mean for example:
I. In Exodus 17: 8-13; when the Amelikites came to attack the children of Israel, Moses went to the Mountaintop.
There he raised up his hands while Joshua was fighting the Amelikites in the Valley below.
And the Bible says that as long as Moses hands were raised, Israel was winning. When his hands went down, the Amelikites began to win.
… That tells us something that: The Mountaintop is Closer to the Anointing.
It is as you find out that when you want to Put up a Mast (Telephone Mast); you look for a Hill or Mountaintop to Place it there. You raised your Artenae on a Mountaintop, you are likely to make contact faster than the Fellow who is in the Valley below.
II. In 1 Kings 19: 4-18; you will Probably discovered that when you are on a Mountaintop, it is easier to hear the “Small Still” Voice of God because over there, it is quiet.
I mean that Elijah has to travel for forty (40) Days and forty (40) Nights to get to Horeeb – The Mountaintop of God because they are going to discuss some very serious issues up there.
Afterall, the Bible says in Psalms 46:10 – Be Still and know that I am God.
Not many People can climb to the Mountaintop – So, there is Plenty of Stillness, of Quietness up there.
But what I find very interesting here is that Elijah was already on Mount Carmel and yet he climbed Higher – He wanted to be at the “Very Top”.
My Prayer to everyone of you listening to me today or reading now on the Label of DMC is that: You will not only Go Higher, you will go very, very High – Amen!
Why did he Climb to the “Very Top”?
I think that it is Probably because he wanted to be “Absolutely Alone” with God!
There are occasions when three (3) can be a crowd.
And when it comes to discussing some issues with God, you need to be “Absolutely Alone” with Him (God).
In Matthew 14:23; the Bible tells us that after Jesus Christ has fed the crowd and sent them away; He went to the Mountaintop to be alone with His Father.
… Three (3) can be a crowd – He didn’t even take the Disciples along with Him. He wanted to be alone with God.
The Best Time I enjoyed any day is when I’m out alone with God – Alone at Night Praying.
And I long for those days when in the Campground there were very few People here and I can go deep into the Jungle alone with God so that we can discuss.
Nowadays, you are walking and you see several People too who said that they want to be alone with God and when they see you, they will come and disturb you.
… They disturb your loneliness with God.
When your Destiny is about to be Changed Permanently, you need to be alone with God.
Genesis 32: 24-28; the Bible says that Jacob was left alone.
When the Angel came to wrestle with him – Wives gone, children gone, inclusive the favourite wife – When he was alone, and he started Playing with a Visitor.
The only Visitor that was allowed when you want to be alone with God Himself; he got his name Changed – His Destiny was Altered Permanently. A Man became a Nation, alone with God.
When the Almighty God wanted to discuss the Destiny of a Nation; whoever is going to be the Man like we discussed some times ago, that God will use; has to be alone.
In Exodus 3: 1-15; when God wanted to discuss the Deliverance of Israel from Egypt; Moses was alone – Not just in the Desert but at the backside of the Desert; away from anybody else.
When your eyes are about to see what no one has seen before; you need to be alone with God.
Exodus 33: 18-23; Moses had Prayed: God show me Your Glory.
God said that if you see my Glory, you will die.
But I (Moses) want to see Your Glory?
Okay, we will take you from where you are and go and hide you in the Cliff of a Rock so that it will be you alone seeing what you are about to see.
There are some Men of God who has seen Visions that they won’t even tell anybody – They won’t tell their closest friends.
I Pray that God will open your eyes too and show you Glorious Things – Amen.
- And when God wants to confirm to you beyond all doubts that you are Special to Him; He will take you to the Mountaintop.
If you find other Person there with you at that time, it must be that they are in the same Club as you – Very, Very Special.
Like in Matthew 17: 1-9; Jesus Christ took aside Peter, James and John to the Mount of Transfiguration and there He was Transfigured before them.
There they saw Elijah who had been taken to Heaven long, long before.
There they saw Moses and they recognised him.
And when they were coming down from the Mountaintop; Jesus Christ told them: Don’t tell anyone about what you have seen until I resurrect.
There are things that only few People can see; there are things that only few People can hear!
I’m sure that you know that the Boardroom in your Company is a very Small Room – Very few People get there and yet tremendous Decisions are taken there!
There is Need to be alone with God – And I hope that you will begin to Practice that from now on!
But then Elijah did something very Spectacular, very Remarkable:
- He threw Himself down on the Earth.
- He Put his face in-between his Legs.
And I looked at this and I said: Any Lesson to learn from this?
- Well, Probably he was saying when he threw himself down on the bare floor; Probably he was saying to God that:
I. You are the Most High – Psalms 91:1.
II. You are Higher than the highest – Ecclesiastes 5:8.
Because it is an Act of Worship.
III. Heaven is your Throne, the Earth is Your Footstool – 1 Samuel 66:1.
And so here I am at Your Footstool, I’m throwing myself down at Your Footstool afterall I’m an “Ordinary Dust”.
Genesis 3: 17-19 says: You are dust. Dust you are, and to dust you will return.
I mean that you see at least in Yorubaland – When you greet a King, you throw yourself down and you lie Prostrate.
And Elijah was lying Prostate before the Original Majesty!
I always feel a bit uncomfortable when I see some People Praising God or Praying to Him with one hand in their Pocket as if they are dealing with their equal.
Whereas, you are dealing with the One who at the snap of His Finger can terminate your Life.
IV. Or maybe when he threw himself down into the dust, he was saying: Almighty God my times are in Your Hands.
In Psalms 31:15; David said that my times are in Your Hands.
… I surrender Completely to you now; I’m on the floor now – From now on, you are in Absolute Control.
V. I see in his throwing himself down on the dust a Big Lesson in Humility.
Not just “Ordinary Humility”; I see in this Place that the Higher you go; the more Humble you must become!
I mean that this is a Man that has just called down Fire from Heaven; this is a Man who should be walking with Swagger – Big Man of God, Great Anointing but he was there on the floor.
James 4:6 – God resist the Proud and gives Grace to the Humble.
1 Peter 5:6 says that: If you will Humble yourself under the Mighty Hands of God, He will lift you up.
… He says: Lord, I’m down on the Floor, I need to go High and it must be You who will lift me High!
Another Fellow that I saw, that I like so much is Apostle Paul.
He is also somebody who shows clearly that the Higher you go, the more Humble you must become.
And this is a Big Lesson to those of us who are Going Higher.
You know that there was a time that Paul said that I am among the Chiefest Apostle – 2 Corinthians 11:5.
But later on, as he began to come to his senses, he said that I am the least of the Apostles – 1 Corinthians 15:9.
But later on, he said that I am least than the least of the Saints – Ephesians 3:8.
… He said: Hey, I’m just an Apostle, I’m less than the one who has just been Born Again.
By the time he got to writing Timothy in 1 Timothy 1:15; he said that I am the Chiefest of Sinners.
Progressively from the Chiefest Apostle, to the least of the Apostle, to the one who is less than the least of Saints, to the one who is the Chiefest sinner.
… He went down steadily so that God can raise him up steadily.
But then, there is still one more Point:
- He put his face between his legs.
I think that one shows that:
I. For serious business, I want to focus on God.
You know Hebrews 12:2 says: You look unto Jesus (Focus on Jesus Christ).
The Bible says in Psalms 112:7 – It says that when your heart is fixed, when you are Trusting the Lord, then you will not be afraid of Evil Tidings.
… You will refused to be distracted.
Anyone who wants to go High, you must learn to put your face between your feet.
II. But it shows something else – It shows a Man with “Rugged Determination”.
Like in Genesis 32: 24-26 – When Jacob was wrestling with that Angel; he said: I am not going to let you go!
I think Elijah was saying: I am going to stay here; I am not going to look into the Sky. I am going to remain here until it rains!
The reason why many Prayers are not answered is because those who are Praying are not determined!
In Matthew 15: 21-28 – That Woman whose daughter was vex of the devil said that I’m not going anywhere until I get my Miracle.
They said that she was too Noisy; she said that you haven’t heard any Noise yet.
Jesus Christ said that I can’t give the bread of children to dogs.
She said: No Problem. I’m a dog, I’m not going until I get my Miracle.
When a Man hasn’t got Plan B, he Prays with Determination!
In Mark 10: 46-52; when Baetimeaus heard that Jesus Christ was Passing by and he was Praying and they said that he was shouting too loudly.
He said that you haven’t seen any shout yet. I’m not stopping until I got my results.
We learnt a Big Lesson from a Man who is already on a Mountaintop and move to even a Higher Spot and fell down on the floor, Put his face down on the Floor, Put his face between his legs and say: I am not moving until that sound that I heard will become a Reality.
My Prayer for those of you hearing me today or reading now on the Label of DMC is that: You too will just dig in and say: Lord God Almighty, this Particular Sunday I’m not moving until you answer my Prayers – Amen!
In Conclusion: Psalms 24: 3-6 says: Not everybody can climb the Mountain of God.
Who is going to climb to that Mountain where you are going to make Contact with God?
He said that you must have Clean Hands, you must have Pure Heart et cetera et cetera.
Do you know what that was saying – You want to climb to the Top of the Mountain of God; then be Holy.
Thank God – That God Himself make Provisions for anyone who wants to climb to the Mountain of God.
And that Provision is in the Blood of Jesus Christ – 1 John 1:7 says: The Blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sins.
ALTAR CALL
So, if you have not been washed in that Blood, run to Jesus Christ now – Bow your head, fall down at the foot of the Cross and say: Lord, wash me Clean. I want to climb to the Mountaintop, I want to make Contact with the Most High.
Cry unto Him – Ask Him to save Your Soul and I will join you in Faith.
I will Pray for you and He will save your Soul.
And from now on, you will begin to climb Higher and Higher and Higher everyday.
Shall we Pray!
PRAYER FOR SALVATION AND CLOSING PRAYER
My Father and my God, I want to bless Your Holy Name. I want to give You all the Glory and Honour for Your Words.
I want to Thank You very much for an opportunity that we have to go to the Highest Mountain Possible so that we can be very close to God.
I’m committing all those who are coming to You today for Salvation into Your Hands; Please Lord, let Your Blood wash away their sins, save their Souls, receive them into the Family of God, give them that opportunity Lord to climb the Very Mountain of the Most High God so that they can be in contact with You.
As many of us that are Humbling ourselves today; as many of us that are going to say: Lord, today must be the Day – We are not moving until You bless us; Father, bless us all!
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
Now, I rejoice with those of you who has given your Life to Jesus Christ.
I’m sure that by the next time that I hear from you; you will already be Climbing towards God.
