OPENING PRAYER
Almighty God, the Lord of Host Himself.
We just want to say Thank You because we know that if You are on our side, we are More Than Conqueror. Accept our Thanks in Jesus Name.
We want to Thank You for the Victories You have given us in the Past; we want to Thank You in advance for Greater Victories ahead – Please accept our Thanks in Jesus Name.
Father, Please speak to us again today and draw us closer to Yourself.
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen!
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
We will continue with our Series on: “Going Higher” and now we come to Part 46 – “Going Higher – Part 46”.
And our Bible Text will be: 1 Kings 19: 4-8.
- But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
- And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an Angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
- And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
- And the Angel of the LORD came again the Second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
- And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the Strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the Mount of God.
This Part of the Story has quite a bit of humour in it:
I. The Man who was running from Jezebel because Jezebel said she will kill him is now asking God to kill him?
One would have say: Sir, if you wanted to die, why didn’t you wait for Jezebel?
I mean there is Somebody who already Volunteered to do the job for you but you ran. Now, you are asking God to be a Murderer.
II. And then after he said that one, he just lay down and slept.
Ha, Ha; Sir I thought you are running away from trouble. What if that Fellow that you are running away from is chasing you and she found you sleeping?
Elijah was sleeping in a Storm and he is giving us a Lesson on how to handle Storms!
How could you be sleeping when you are in a Storm?
Let me start by Praying for anyone listening to me or reading now on the Label of DMC who might be going through a Storm now – The Almighty God will see you through – Amen.
He slept because Psalms 127:2 says: God gives His Beloveth sleep.
And you know that you don’t know that you are sleeping until they wake you up.
I am sure that he didn’t even know when he fell asleep.
God saw that he,(Elijah) was tired and said: Okay, you want me to kill you, sleep first and then we will discuss.
He slept because he was tired – This Man has been running for three (3) days after running down from Mount Carmel to Jezreel.
And Isaiah 40:30 says: Even Young Men get tired.
… No matter how Strong you are; you get tired.
Why should I sleep when I am in a Storm?
Don’t forget that you have an Heavenly Body Guard.
Psalms 121: 1-4 – He tells us that He that keepeth Israel will neither Sleep nor Slumber.
There is Someone watching over you – So Sleep!
In 1 Samuel 26: 1-25 – We see the Great Advantage those of us who are Christians have over those who are not Christians.
The King was surrounded by Royal Guards – Mighty Men of Valour. They all slept and David came in, took away the Sword of the King, took away his Drinking Water Bottle and left.
When he went away, then he cried out to the Head of the Security Guards – You have done a very bad thing. We thought that you are Mighty, and looking after the King. Look at what I have done?
That is why I always smiled when I see People who surrounds themselves with Body Guards – If you think that these People can take care of you then you are dead!
How much are you going to Pay a Body Guard who is carrying a “Little Revolver” when he comes against those who are carrying AK-47? How much are you going to Pay me that I will sacrifice my Life for you?
Thank God that there is Someone who neither sleeps nor slumber – He is the One who is the Body Guard of all Christians!
In Acts 12: 5-11 – There is this very interesting Story that tells you that the Best of Body Guards cannot Protect you against Spiritual Invaders – Even when your doors are well locked. Security Doors of the Highest Degree.
They put Peter in a Prison, an Angel walked through – The People who were watching, they are dead asleep. The Doors opened on their own accord.
So, you think that you are secured because your house has a Mighty Wall round it; the Wall has all manners of Electric Barb Wires on it – Can those things stop Witches and Wizards from coming in?
So you ask: How dare you sleep in a Storm?
I’m sure that if you meet Elijah in Heaven; you Probably want to sit him down and ask him – How he did it?
I think that every Child of God should learn a Lesson from this – Don’t kill yourself trying to Protect yourself. The Only Protection is from God!
David said in Psalms 4:8 – He said that – I sleep in Peace because only God make me dwell in Safety.
… Safety is of the Lord!
Psalms 119:165 said: Great Peace has they which Love their Lord; nothing shall offend them.
Philippians 4: 6-7 tells you that there is a Peace of God that Passes all Understanding.
Why are you worrying because you don’t know what will happen tomorrow?
Isaiah 3:10 makes it clear – Say ye to the Righteous, it shall be well with him.
If you are a Child of God, your tomorrow will be Alright – Amen
Philippians 1:6 says it clearly – He that started the Good Work in you, will complete the job.
… Stop worrying Child of God!
Oh, there is Bad News all over – Every time you open the Television, you will hear News that will frightened you.
In the Olden Days, when there is any Problem in town, People run to the Army Barracks to be safe. Now, the Army Barracks itself needs Protection.
Who has heard even of Robbers or Thieves going to the Palace? – It’s an Abomination.
But now, they don’t just go to the Palace to steal; they go to the Palace to kidnap the one who is supposed to be the Second (2nd) in Command to the Idol.
But when you are a Child of God; safety is of the Lord – Horses are Prepared for the Day of War, but Safety is of the Lord. So, Relax!
Hebrews 9:27 made it clear – It is Appointed unto Man once to die.
… Only once and until that time comes, Nobody can kill you!
David said in Psalms 31:15 – My Time are in Your Hands Oh Lord!
Put your time in His Hands and then Relax!
Follow Jesus Christ example in Mark 4: 35-41 – There was a Storm, what did He do? He slept!
He is our Commader-In-Chief, He is our Leader – He slept!
Why did He sleep? – He knows the End from the Beginning.
Why? – Because Revelation 1:8 says that He is the Alpha and the Omega. He knows the End from the Beginning.
Whether you believed it or not – God knows how you are going to End!
And in Hebrews 13:5; He has Promised that I will never leave you nor forsake you.
I know that you will say – Oh, maybe you are saying this because you have never experienced a Storm.
Ha, I have – Physical and Spiritual; all manners of Storms.
I have told you the Story of my first Boat Cruise – Some of my children said that I must rest and so they bought me a Ticket to go on a Boat Cruise.
I have told you that the Best Place to go on a Holiday is on a Cruise – They will rejoice in overfeeding you.
In the ship, there are about twenty four (24) Restaurants. And you don’t need any Pass to enter – Once you are on the Boat, you can eat in all the twenty four (24) Restaurants in a Day if you want to. They even have a “Special Buffae” for Midnight.
DMC NOTES: A Buffae is a Meal consisting of several dishes from which Guests serve themselves.
… Oh, I enjoyed myself – I ate, and everything was Good until a Storm came!
And the Storm took that massive boat and toss it up and then drop it down and everything was scattering all over the Place.
Things got so bad that the Captain had to call us together and said: Don’t worry, there are twelve (12) Categories of Storms and beginning from Category one (1); we are only on Category ten (10). He then said: Just go to your cabin and stay calm.
DMC NOTES: Your room on a Cruise Ship is called a “CABIN” or sometimes a “STATEROOM” and it is akin or similar to a Hotel Room, but typically in this case very much Smaller.
I got to my cabin and said: Lord, what am I doing here? What can I do now?
And the Lord said to me – When I was in the world and there was a Storm, what did I do?
I said that You slept.
Then He said – Sleep!
I jumped on my bed and within 2 Minutes, I was gone. By the time I woke up, we are already by the Land – The Storm ended and I didn’t even know when!
Relax my Brother; relax my Sister – God is in Control. There is No Storm that can sink the boat in which the Prince of Peace is sitting down!
Isaiah 9:6 tells us that His Name is the Prince of Peace!
If Jesus Christ is in the boat of your Life, it cannot sink!
But Elijah had been in a Storm before; that is Probably the reason why he slept.
Because in 1 Kings 18: 7-18 – He came face to face with Ahab who said: Hey, I have found you – You are the one that has been troubling Israel. I have been searching for you all these days and now here you are.
But he knew God was on his side – He just looked at the King and said I’m not the one troubling Israel; you are the one troubling Israel and the King couldn’t touch him.
When you know that God has “Stilled” Storm before – Either for you or for Someone you know; you should relax because whatever He has done before, He can do it again.
For Example:
- In 2 Kings 5: 1-14 – He cleansed Naaman who is a Leper.
That was why in Matthew 8: 1-3; when the Leper came to Him, he said: I know that you can do it – You have done it before. And He did it!
- Another Fellow that you found sleeping in a Storm is our friend Peter.
Acts 12: 5-11 – He knew that they are going to kill him the following morning but he slept and an Angel came and set him Free.
How could Peter be sleeping in a Storm?
Because in Acts 5: 16-29; he had been imprisoned before and an Angel had come to set him Free.
The God who did it before will do it again – Amen!
If Jesus Christ is in your boat, your boat cannot sink.
Because I have been in a Storm before and I know that He doesn’t Change – The same Yesterday, Today and Forever.
After that first Storm, there had been others but I wasn’t moved.
I told you the Story that I was going to London and Somebody bought me a First Class Ticket.
And as we are just settling down in the Air, they just served us food; the Pilot came and said: Ladies and Gentlemen, the Weather Boys tells us that by the time we get to Heathrow Airport, there is going to be a “Big Storm” but don’t worry, we will manage to Land.
The Fellow who was sitting next to me froze – He couldn’t touch his food. I just smiled!
I finished my food, turned to him and say: Sir, you are not eating?
He was surprised and he thought maybe I didn’t understand English.
He said: You heard what the Captain said? – I said Yes.
So, I turned to him again, you are not Eating? – He said: No
I was Young and then hungry – I said: Can I help you?
He said: Yes. He gave me his tray and I gave him my own “Empty tray”.
I finished the food and then went to sleep.
We got to Heathrow Airport and the Captain came and said: Ladies and Gentlemen, we are very sorry; the Weather Boys deceived us. The Storm is going to be in Scotland and not in London.
I looked at my neighbour, he looked at me and the two (2) of us began to laugh. He couldn’t get his food back but he was laughing out of Relief.

If there is any Storm in your Life, Please remember that: God has “Stilled” Storms before, He can will do it again – Amen!
In John 16:33; Jesus Christ said – In this world you will have Tribulations but be of Good Cheers, I have overcome the world.
He didn’t say that sailing through Life is going to be “Storm Free” – He didn’t say so!
What He said is that: I will be there for you – When you are Passing through Rivers, I will make sure that the River will not Overflow you; when you are Passing through Fire, I will make sure that the Fire don’t burn you.
… That is the Promise of God!
But that Promise can only work for His Children.
So, if you are not one of His own and you know that whether you like it or not; Storm will come, it’s a matter of time.
You better cry to Jesus Christ now and say: Save my Soul, receive me into Your Family so that when the Storm of Life comes; I will know that I will Pass through safely.
ALTAR CALL
So, if you have not given your Life to Jesus Christ and you want to do so; I advice you now – Bow your Head wherever you are and cry to Him because only God knows tomorrow. Your Storm might be around the corner.
But if you give your Life to Jesus Christ now, then the devil would have lost the battle over you.
Let Us Pray!
If you want to give your Life to Jesus Christ, call on Him and ask Him to Please save your Soul, forgive your sin, come and live in my heart, come and step into the boat of my Life so that from now on; I can weather any Storm safely.
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen!
PRAYER FOR SALVATION AND CLOSING PRAYER
And so my Father and my God, I want to Thank You once again for Your Words.
Thank You Prince of Peace that You are able to “Still” any Storm.
I’m committing all those who are surrendering their lives to You today into Your Hands; Please Lord God Almighty, have Mercy on them, save their Souls, let Your Blood wash away their sins; Please receive them into the Family of God, come into the boat of their lives.
And whatever Storms may come their ways, Lord God Almighty, see them safely through.
As for all of us who are Your Children, who might be going through one kind of Storm or the other now; in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, I decree: “Please Be Still” .
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
Now, those of you who has given your Life to Jesus Christ, I rejoice with you and I want you to know that from now on, I will be Praying for you.
