OPENING PRAYER
Almighty God, the Great Redeemer Himself – The Owner of Redeemer’s University, we worship You.
We give You all Glory and we give You all Honour for all You’ve done for us since the last time we met here.
We Thank You in advance for what You are about to do today.
Please accept our worship in Jesus’ Name.
We Pray that in the Life of every one of us here today, or those reading now on the Label of DMC: You would do something New. You would do something Great and You would do something Miraculous.
Father, this is Your University and You are the Resurrection and the Life – In this University:
Let there be no more deaths, no more sorrows and no more tragedies.
Let there be only Miracles, Signs and Wonders.
Bless our Vice Chancellor (DMC NOTES: The Vice Chancellor of Redeemer University (RUN) is Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele; a renowned Professor of Forestry and the 4th Substantive VC of RUN).
Bless all the Staffs.

By the end of today my Father and my God, we will all be singing a New Song.
In Jesus’ Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Well, let Somebody shout hallelujah- Hallelujah.
I want you to look for at least two (2) to three (3) people you have not seen this Year and say, Happy New Year, God Bless You!
And then I say Happy New Year to you all.
God Bless You!
And then you may Please be seated.
Glory be to God!
Today, the Almighty God in His Infinite Wisdom and Mercy has sent a Message to Somebody in Particular.
I don’t know who that fellow is, but the fellow will know himself or herself before we finish.
And if you would just have the Faith to believe that definitely, “It can only be me” let me hear you shout hallelujah – Hallelujah!
And the Message is in Isaiah 60:1-3, it says:
1 Arise, Shine; for thy Light is come, and the Glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
2 For, behold, the Darkness shall cover the Earth, and gross Darkness the People: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and His Glory shall be seen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy Light, and kings to the Brightness of thy rising.
ARISE!
“Arise” is a word that means different things to different People:
- COME BACK TO LIFE:
Arise to somebody who is Dead can mean, “Come back to Life”.
In Mark 5:35-43, Jesus got to Jairus’ house, whose daughter had died. He said, young girl Arise!
So I have Good News for Somebody here tonight or reading now on the Label of DMC: Whatever it is that is good in your Life that the devil has killed; it shall come back to Life today – Amen.
- WAKE UP:
Arise could mean to somebody who is sleeping, “Wake up”.
In Matthew 26:37-46, Jesus Christ went to Pray in the Garden of Gethsemane and He took His “Trusted Disciples” along with Him – “Hey, come and join me in Prayer because I need Prayer Support.”
And as He was Praying in great agony, the People began to sleep.
He came a second time they were still sleeping.
By the time He came the third time He said, “Okay, Arise let us go.”
So, Arise to the one who is sleeping can mean, “Wake up!”
You see, the Problem with the fellow who is sleeping is that he doesn’t know he is sleeping until somebody wakes him up.
Whatever is good in your Life that is asleep, this Evening, it will wake up – Amen.
- GET UP/STAND UP:
Arise can mean to somebody who is seated, “Get up! Or Stand up”.
In Acts 3:1-8, you remember the Story of the man who was born Lame. And he had always been sitting – Wherever they put him, that’s where he stayed:
Rain or Sun, he couldn’t move from one spot.
And one day just like today, Peter went to him and said, in the Name of Jesus, Arise! ” – Silver and Gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” And he arose and began to walk, began to jump, began to Praise God.
You see, because God has brought a Message to you today, saying: Arise; Whatever is it that has been tying you down is going to be destroyed – Amen.
It means whatever is in you that is your Potential, but has been stagnant, not showing its Ability – What it can do, but just sitting down there; the Almighty God who is saying “Arise” is going to handle the situation – Amen.
You know, many People have great Potentials but they die without become anything in Life.
When I was younger; I am only eighty three (83) years old – ‘Young.’
In my little Village in Ifewara there was this girl in my Primary School with Angelic voice.
Back then in the Primary School, we had what they call Entertainment – We were having little Playlet, acting David versus Goliath, etc.
And this Particular girl would just be singing Songs.
Do you know the Villagers go to the School Entertainments because of her singing? – She was that good.
But she died being a “Good Singer” in the Village.
If it were now, Probably she would have been known throughout the world.
Whatever is your Potential; whatever Special Gift that God has given you that is stagnant, not showing up; It would Arise today – Amen.
- JUMP TO ACTION:
Arise can mean to someone who is already standing, “Jump to Action”.
In 1 Samuel 16:11-13, when God sent Samuel to go and anoint a King in the house of Jesse.
The Prophet came to Jesse, the later brought forth his seven (7) boys and they were all rejected by God.
Samuel said, I know who sent me, I heard His Voice; He asked me to come to your house – He said that the New King is here. “Are these all your children?”
Well, reluctantly, the father said, “there remains one, but he is not a Candidate of Kingship.” He is in the bush taking care of my sheep and goats – That’s all he can do.
And Samuel said, “We are not going to sit down until you bring that boy” – We will stand until you bring him.
So they went, and they brought in David.
They were already standing when God spoke to Samuel and said, this is the one we are waiting for, “Arise, Anoint him!”
Like I said earlier, I don’t know the fellow that God really is talking to today:
- But all the forces that can make you King. I mean, take you to the top;
- All those forces of great ideas looking at you, and are not doing anything;
From this moment onward, they won’t be able to sit down anymore – Amen!
- BEGIN TO RUN:
Arise can mean to somebody who is already in action, “Begin to Run”.
In 1 Samuel 17:48-51, David and Goliath were already talking; each one boasting about his own God. And they were walking one towards the other.
But the Bible says, Goliath began to move, and David ran to battle – You know the rest of the Story.
If you are already walking and God says Arise! It means, begin to Run.
I decree to Someone here or reading now on the Label of DMC: Beginning from tonight, your Progress will be Accelerated – Amen.
So the first word in our Bible Text (Isaiah 60:1-30) is “Arise!”
And if that is all that God is saying to us tonight, it’s enough to go home.
Because if the Lord is saying “Arise” it means things will never be the same again – Amen.
“Arise” implies that things will get far better than it used to be – Amen.
SHINE
The next word in the Message to whoever that fellow is, is “Shine.”
I am sure you know what Shine means – Afterall this is an Academic Community.
“Shine” without any doubt means, your Brightness; Excel.
Prove that you are Brilliant. Shine!
In Judges 15:14-16, when they brought Samson bound to the Camp of the enemy, he shone – Because with the jawbone of an ass he killed a thousand People.
He proved beyond all doubts, “This fellow is not ordinary” – He shone among them.
What Light does is that it drives away Darkness.
One beautiful thing about Light is that if a room is full of darkness and you switch on the Light; without you saying a word, all the darkness in the room will disappear.
I have Good News you for Someone inclusive those reading now on the Label of DMC: From tonight onward you will Shine – Amen.
When forces of darkness see you coming they would run – Amen.
Several years ago in my little Village – Thank God things have changed know; so don’t look at my Village with the same eyes as before.
My father attended a family Meeting and he quarreled with other Members of our family – Join our Party, no I can’t, my son is in Secondary School, and the Principal of the School belongs to the other Party. I can’t join you, otherwise he will victimize my son.
Oh, so it’s because of your son that you are not going to join our Party?
Oh yes – As soon as he finishes from Secondary School, we can talk again.
And they said, “I see!” – Then we will see how long that your son will live.
And in those days, not now, when they say, “We will see how long you will live”; the meaning is that you are not likely to see the following Morning.
That Night my father came home, told us what happened in the family Meeting.
My mother grabbed me, and that Night we fled – And I was running for the next thirteen (13) years.
Then I met the Lord Jesus Christ, and it became clear to me that it is darkness that runs from Light and not the other way round.
I don’t want to boast now, but I am quite sure witches and wizards that may remain in Ifewara are not many now. When they hear that I am coming home they run!
May I decree to Someone here or reading now on the Label of DMC that because from now on you are going to be Shining; When forces of darkness see you coming they will run – Amen.
Excel, show your Brilliance – Show the stuff you are made of.
And you will find another example in 1 Kings 3:4-28 – Solomon loved God and he decided to offer a thousand burnt offering to Him.
That Night, God paid him a visit and asked him, “What do you want?”
Solomon said, all I want is Wisdom – The Ability to Understand.
Which would be a very good Prayer Point for somebody in the University to Pray.
God said alright; I will give you Wisdom, I will give you Understanding and even the things you didn’t ask for, I will add.
Solomon woke up and he said, “Ha, it was a Dream.”
But then it wasn’t long after that, two (2) women came to him – Two (2) harlots who lived together in the same room. Each one had given birth to a child, and the children looked alike.
One Night, one of the women carelessly slept on her own child and the child died.
When she found out that her child was dead she said, no Problem! So quickly, she switched the children.
There were only two of them in the same room.
When the other woman woke up she said, “What! A dead child?”
But then she looked closely, “This is not my child.” She looked at the baby on the other side, Ha, that is my child over there.
So they took the case to Solomon.
God wanted to give an opportunity to the People to know that Solomon is no longer the fellow they used to know.
I have Good News for you; you will soon begin to surprise your Lecturers – Amen.
- How do you know who the mother of the living child is?
- How do know who the mother of the dead child is?
The thing that is called Potential rose up!
Solomon said, get me a sword let’s divide the living child into two (2) – Give one half to each woman.
And the mother of the living child said, my child is alive. I don’t want you to kill him. Let’s hand over the living child to the other woman. Afterall when my child grows up he would know who his real mother is.
And Solomon said, “Give the living child to that woman, definitely that’s the mother of the living child.”
Every one who heard the Judgement said, “there’s something in this man that is of God.”
I Pray in the Name that’s above every other name, beginning from tonight, you will Arise; You will begin to Shine – Amen.
FOR THY LIGHT IS COME.
And then He went further to say, “For thy Light is come.”
… That is how far I will be able to go tonight – We will leave the rest to the Holy Spirit to explain.
You see, there is something called Destiny – Something about you that God decided.
There is something about this University that God decided before it was founded – There’s something they call Destiny.
I had quite a bit of a struggle with the National University Commission – We were going to call this University, “Jesus’ University”; they said no, you can’t use a name like that to register a University.
Okay, what about “Christ University?” They said that one is too Religious.
I said God, what do You want me to call Your University? I mean a name that those People cannot reject?
He said, Redeemer.
So I said to them, what about “Redeemer’s University?” They said well, Redeemer can be anybody;
- If you sell something and you want to get it back, you can be called a Redeemer.
- If somebody is in trouble and you are to bail him or her, to that fellow you are a Redeemer.
That’s why this Institution is called Redeemer’s University because you may not know this.
There is something about you that is not common to any other University – Something Unique.
And that Person who made you “Unique” made the door open to take in Students – He is the One who is speaking to you today saying, “Arise, Shine, for thy Light is come”.
So if you know that at long last your Light has come, let me hear you shout hallelujah – Hallelujah.
In Jeremiah 1:4, the Bible says, Then the Word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a Prophet unto the Nations.
Before your father met your mother, God already had a Plan for your Life.
I have some friends in America in Particular, and their complaint is that they don’t even know their father – “Mama slept with someone, got Pregnant, and the man disappeared.
When they complain to me I say, “Hey, don’t worry, God knew what He was doing – He wanted to Produce you and He chose a Particular man to meet a Particular woman. The man has done his job – He Produced you.
Don’t worry, the “Original Father” is God.
Before He formed you, He already knew you.
And in Jeremiah 29:11 He says, I have a Good Purpose for your Life; I want you to have an Expected End.
The Original Plan of God for you is Good.
And do you know what? There is very little you can do about it.
When you read Romans 9:10-18, the Bible tells you that even when two boys were in the womb, before they were born God had already spoken and said, the elder will serve the younger.
They were not yet born and they have not done good or bad but God had already said, this is my Plan – The elder will serve the younger.
I smile because I remembered the Story of a set of twins – One was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a very Powerful Company – I won’t mention the name of the Company. And his twin brother was his driver.
When People asked him, “why are you using your twin brother as your driver?” He said, who else can I trust? Afterall we came from the same womb.
They asked the twin, “why are you driving your twin brother?” And he gave this answer, “That’s the Will of God for my Life” – Destiny!
In Romans 9:10-18, God said concerning Pharaoh: The reason I made you great is so that when I drown you the whole world will know there is a King above all kings.
If you read the Book of Exodus very well, God told Moses, go and tell Pharaoh to let my People go. But don’t think it will be easy because I will harden his heart. Before you arrive I will make sure of that; so that I can demonstrate to him my Supremacy:
Now he thinks he is ‘big.’ When I drown him, he will know that I am the One who is called the King of kings.
There is something called Timing. I don’t want to take too much of your time.
Since we are in an Academic Community, one of the things that is very difficult to define is that word called Time.
If I ask you now, what is Time? The normal answer will be: Time is that which is measured in hour, minutes, seconds.
I didn’t say, “How do you measure Time?” What is Time?
And if you want to show me that you are a great Philosophically, you will tell me, Time is a fraction of Eternity.
And what is Eternity? Eternity is time without end.
So what is Time?
Time is a fraction of Eternity without end.
Time is a Peculiar thing.
Forgive me, we are in an Academic Community, that’s why occasionally I tend to get a bit Mathatical.
In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, the Bible says God has Time for everything -;He had a Timetable for everything.
Whether you believe it or not, before you were born, He knew when you will come to Redeemer’s University (RUN).
And believe me honestly, He’s fully aware of when you will Graduate.
That some People are your Classmates now, He knows all those things in details.
He has a Timetable for everything.
But He is now saying in Psalms 102:13, Thou shalt arise, and have Mercy upon Zion: for the Time to favour her, yea, the Set Time, is come.
So God is saying to you, your Time to Arise; and your Time to Shine has come – Amen.
Maybe you don’t believe me; in years to come, those of you who are here, or reading now on the Label of DMC will look back and remember tonight as the moment Destiny Paid you a visit – Amen.
EXAMPLES
I will give you a few examples so that you will be able to remember the entire Sermon – I don’t want to make it long. It’s an incredible Topic.
- SAMUEL:
Take for example one boy called Samuel.
In 1 Samuel 1:19-20, the mother (Hannah) who had been barren for a long time, had been going to Shiloh, Praying and asking God for help.
One day, in great agony she cried unto God with so much Pain that only her lips were seen moving – They couldn’t hear her voice.
Hannah made a Covenant with God, “Give me a Male child.”
She didn’t say give me a child – “Give me a son and I will hand him over to you.”
With Destiny marked out for Samuel, he was born to be a Prophet of God – That was the beginning.
After sometime the boy was living with the High Priest (Eli).
One day as he was sleeping, a voice spoke, “Samuel! Samuel!!”. He thought it was the Oga who was calling him, so he ran to Eli “Yes, Sir, what do you want me to do?” Eli said, “I didn’t call you, go and lie down.”
You know, somebody is likely to hear the voice of God today – Amen.
By the third time when he now came, Eli knew, “This boy is hearing from God.”
That was when the Time of Samuel came:
- He woke up that Morning an Ordinary Messenger to the Man of God.
- By the time he went to bed finally, he was a Prophet.
He was hearing from God, because his Boss (Eli) was no longer hearing from God.
- It wasn’t long after that, according to the Bible; the whole Nation knew, a New Prophet has come.
- It wasn’t long after that, Samuel became the first King Maker in Israel (DMC NOTES: 1 Samuel 10:1-25).
- It wasn’t long after that he became the first King Remover
Samuel was the first Prophet to make a King; the first Prophet to remove a King (1 Samuel 16:1-40).
Samuel is an example of the one whose Destiny had a Timetable – When his day came he fulfilled Destiny.
- DAVID
I have already mentioned David before.
But do you know that long before Samuel went to Jesse’s house to anoint a boy, it had already been written in Acts 13:21-23 where God said; I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
So what was happening in 1 Samuel 16:1-11 was a manifestation of what God has already settled.
- ELISHA:
Let me go to Elisha.
In 1 Kings 19:19-21, Elisha was a very hardworking son of a Wealthy Farmer. He thought that he was going to spend his Life as a Wealthy Farmer: “Whenever Daddy dies I will take over from him.”
But God had a different Plan.
And all of a sudden, a Prophet was passing by and threw his Mantle upon Elisha.
As soon as the Mantle was thrown upon him, he knew immediately, what God is saying is that you are not going to be a Wealthy Farmer, “You are going to be a Prophet.”
Everything happened within a day.
But his Time didn’t come in a couple of years, until finally God decided to take Elijah (DMC NOTES: 2 Kings 2:9-15).
When Elijah went by a Whirlwind to Heaven and the Mantle that was thrown upon the shoulder of Elisha before, was now dropped from Heaven as his Master (Elijah) was going.
And then he knew, the Set Time has come!
- Let me go to the New Testament and give just one more example.
In Mark 3:3-16, the Bible tells us that Jesus went up to a Hill, called some People to Himself and appointed some of them. He said okay, I give you Power.
PETER:
The Bible mentioned the name of one fellow called Peter.
The day God called those to be Apostles, Peter was one.
But the Time of Peter didn’t really come until in Acts Chapter 2, when the Holy Spirit fell.
- He Preached just one Sermon and three thousand (3,000) souls were won (DMC NOTES: Acts 2:41).
- It wasn’t long after that, his shadow began to heal the sick (DMC NOTES: Acts 5:15).
I want to beg you tonight; don’t destroy your Destiny, because there is something about God versus Destiny.
In 1 Samuel 2:30 God said to Eli:
Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
Each time I read that Passage, I will remember that: “The White Man who made the Pencil also made Eraser.” God has sent me to tell you tonight:
You can Arise. You can begin to Shine because your time has come – Amen.
But remember, when Elijah was leaving, Elisha got a Double Portion of his Spirit.
- GEHAZI:
By the time you get to 2 Kings 5:1-end, you will see the Story of another Servant of the Man of God called Gehazi.
His own Time would have come to ask Elisha for a Double Portion of his Spirit and he could have received it.
He could have become the most Powerful Prophet of All-Time but he couldn’t wait. He preferred the wealth of a Leper and he ended up a Leper.
Because Elisha could not find somebody to handover the tremendous Power of God to, he died with it.
The Power went with him to the grave – It was so much that a dead man touched his bones and jumped back to Life.
Your decision tonight will determine how Great your future will be – Don’t destroy your Destiny.
I think they gave me one big Title here tonight. They called me ‘Visitor” – I think a Visitor should be somebody who is visiting regularly.
But I am talking to you as your father;
In the Name that’s above every other name, do not destroy your Destiny – Amen.
You didn’t come to Redeemer’s University (RUN) by accident – “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.” (DMC NOTES: Acts 15:18)
… I am talking Particularly to those of you who are here tonight.
Even as I was entering this place tonight, I saw quite a few Students strolling away in the other direction – They heard the singing, they knew there was going to be a Meeting here but it means nothing to them; because they are not included in what God is doing.
I am fully aware that even though this is a University Community, He is still God here.
I am fully aware there might be a few of you already into something questionable – Do not destroy your Destiny!
When He says, “Arise, Shine, for your Light is come”; He is saying, “I am beginning something New in your Life.” How far it will go is up to you.
I believe I have done my duty tonight. I will only add Altar Call now.
ALTAR CALL
- If you know that when we are talking about Light, there is nothing at all similar to Light in your Life.
- You know you are still living in sin.
- You know you are still showing People that you belong to God; and you still shout hallelujah with us but you know that you are not anywhere near being a Christian.
Tonight you have made up your Mind, “If he says surrender your Life to Jesus Christ” I will go and surrender to the One who says, “I Am.”
You are here tonight or reading now on the Label of DMC and you want to say bye bye to everything that has to do with the devil;
“Anything at all that I am doing that the School Authority should not know about”; I am ready to say bye bye to them. I want to be a Child of the Almighty God Himself.
If you are one of those People, I will count from one (1) to ten (10) – Before I say ten (10) come forward for Genuine Salvation. And I will Pray for God to save your Soul.
If you were a Christian before, a “True Child” of God before and you backslide; now you want to reconnect with Jesus Christ; come also.
This is a Special Night that you are going to remember for the rest of your Life.
So I am counting now…
Cry to God and say: Lord; Thank You for today. I’ve come to surrender my Life Genuinely to You.
Save my Soul, have Mercy on me as I want to be Yours for ever.
Be my Lord, be my Saviour and I will obey You for the rest of my Life.
Go ahead, begin to talk to God!
And the rest of us, let’s Stretch our hands towards these People and intercede for them:
Pray that the One who saved our Souls would save their own Souls also.
Cry to God to be Merciful to them.
Ha! Thank You Father. Thank You Jesus.
In Jesus’ Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
PRAYER FOR SALVATION
My Father and my God, I say Thank You very, very much for this Evening.
Thank You for the Message You have sent to us.
Thank You for the People who have Genuinely surrendered their lives to You today.
Please have Mercy on them, forgive all their sins, let Your Blood wash them Clean.
Please save their Souls Oh LORD, write their names in the Book of Life and let them become Members of the Family of God.
And the Grace to serve You all the days for their lives Father, give unto them, in Jesus’ Name.
I Pray that from now on, anytime they call on You You will answer them by Fire.
Don’t let them ever backslide and any Backslider returning to You today, Please Lord, take him or her back.
And don’t let them ever backslide again.
In Jesus’ Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Now, those or you have just given your Life Genuinely to Jesus Christ, let me hear you shout hallelujah – Hallelujah.
I want to assure that from now on, by the Grace of God, I’ll be Praying for you.
So I am going to need your name, your Address and your Prayer Requests.
God Bless You!
Those of you who believe, “I think I am the one God has been talking to”; I think that you better stand on your feet and shout hallelujah – Hallelujah.
CLOSING PRAYER
My Father and my God, I want to Thank You very, very much for Your Children who are gathered here today, or reading the Message now on the Label of DMC.
Thank You because their day has come.
Please on their behalf; let today be their Night, in Jesus’ Name.
In Your Name Lord I decree into the Life of every one here or reading now on the Label of DMC:
Arise, Shine!
Your Time has come.
Your Miracles begin.
Your Promotions begin.
Begin to Excel.
Begin to do the Will of God.
Begin to fulfil your Purpose.
From now on, anytime I hear concerning you it shall be Good News.
And you will Shine forever.
So shall it be!
In Jesus’ Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Now you are going to cry to the Almighty God and say: Father, Thank You that I am here Tonight;
From now on let me begin to Shine for You.
Go ahead, talk to them Almighty God.
