OPENING PRAYER
King of kings and Lord of lords; the Ancient of Days. The Alpha, the Omega, the One who was, the One who is, the One who is to come, the Almighty God.
The Owner of Obafemi Awolowo University, we Worship You.
We give You all Glory, we give You all Honour and we give You all Adoration for all You’ve done for us since the last time we were here.
We Thank You in advance for what You are about to do today.
Father, accept our Thanks in Jesus’ Name.
In Your Own wonderful way, visit every one of us today.
Continue to bless Your University:

Today, we are here for a very serious business because of the Topic that has been chosen for our gathering tonight;
Which is, “Be Reconciled to God”.
… Now, that’s a very serious Topic.
When the Organizers of this Programme sent me that Topic I said, “Oh God, Please have Mercy on all of us.”
Our Bible Text is 2 Corinthians 5:20;
Now then we are Ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we Pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
LIFE IS WAR!
I. From the moment we are conceived in the womb war began.
II. As we grow up in the darkness of our mother’s womb, we are fighting a war.
It takes the Grace of God for us to survive in the womb.
III. And when it is time to be born, oh! Serious warfare.
We’ll be fighting because we want to get out and our mother will be fighting to survive the ordeal.
That’s why when a woman gives birth to a child, the Yoruba greeting is, “Eku ewu” – That means you survived this danger, Congratulations!
IV. And then from the moment you got born, the war continues.
Before you know it, it’s time for circumcision – You have done nothing wrong, and all of a sudden, you feel a sharp knife cutting into your body.
If you have ever been present where there is circumcision, you will know it’s a tough time for the child.
I was trying to explain something to some Great Men of God when they were trying to say that wven Hannah Prayed; only her lips moved, the voice wasn’t heard.
I gave them an illustration to show that when pain gets to the peak, you might be Praying and nobody would hear your voice.
So I gave them the illustration of one time I was visiting a couple in the Morning they were going to circumcise their son, and I was invited to Please come and be there.
- When they pulled the foreskin of that baby he began to cry, wondering, “what’s going on?”
- When they clipped the thing, he cried louder. And the mother was trying to stop the cry with breast milk.
- When they used blade, the child threw away the breast; “This is not the time to suck milk.”
- When they finished the cutting and they applied Iodine; the boy had been crying before and suddenly all you could see was the lips moving; no sound was coming out.
The pain had reached such a Level – War!
You survived all that, you have to be grateful to God that germs didn’t kill you at that stage – Because after they have circumcised you, you have to Thank God that germs didn’t come in, etc.
Life is warfare.
The Bible makes it clear in Ephesians 6:13-18 – It says, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against Principalities, against Powers, against the Rulers of the Darkness of this world, against Spiritual Wickedness in High Places.
We are wrestling!
And if you have been a follower of the Wrestlers and you see what goes on in the Ring when they are wrestling, you’ll know what the Bible is comparing Life to.
I mean, if you read that Passage completely, it asked us to put on “Armour” – Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
You don’t put on armour when you are going to Sunday School – You put on armour when you are going to war.
And the Bible makes it clear that this warfare is on a daily basis.
1 Peter 5:8 says, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Thank God, up to this moment, he hasn’t found you.
And you know what? The Bible says that even the Soldiers of the enemy that is determined that you won’t survive is not really a Stranger to you – They might be living in the same house as yourself.
I am not the one who said so. It is Jesus who said so in Matthew 10:36 – And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
Brothers and Sisters, that you are still alive today, I think you should shout hallelujah – Hallelujah!
Apostle Paul said to Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:12: Fight the good fight of Faith, lay hold on Eternal Life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many Witnesses.
And at the end of his own journey on Earth, the same Paul said to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the Faith:
We are at war – Don’t let anybody deceive you to the contrary.
I mean, there was a case of two (2) brothers; the older one colluded with enemies to kill the younger brother. Somehow the younger brother escaped death.
It was finally discovered that the elder brother was the one behind the scene.
When the younger brother asked him, “How come? You of all People: I feed you, I meet all your Needs.” He said, that’s the Problem.
“Problem” that I am taking care of you? He said, Yes. I am your elder brother, I’m the one who is supposed to be taking care of you.
The younger brother asked, “Is it my fault that God has made me more successful than you? That I am taking care of you, yet you want to kill me?”
I am here Tonight to tell you in the Name of the Almighty God that you will end up Victorious – Amen.
POSSIBILITIES
Now, in the battle of Life, there are various Possibilities:
- POSSIBILITY NO. 1: “If God is Against you.”
If God is against you, you’re going to end up a loser
Because if God is against you, you will lose.
In Exodus 14:21-28, when the children of Israel got to the Red Sea and the Red Sea opened, they walked on dry land.
The Egyptians followed!
By the time they got to the middle of the sea, God turned against them and began to pull off the wheels of their chariots. And then some of them said, “Ha, we better turn back because it looks as if God is fighting against us.”
By the time they decided to turn back, it was already too late because every one of them drowned.
May I decree that every enemy that followed you to this Ground Tonight or as you are reading now on the Label of DMC, will drown – Amen.
If God is against you, you are going to lose.
Because the Bible makes it clear that God resists the Proud – He fights against the proud (DMC NOTES: James 4:6).
And Proverbs 16:18 says:Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty Spirit before a fall.
So those of us who might have an element of Pride in us, that may cause a situation where we end up with God being against us; I hope you will change your Mind Tonight and humble yourself.
Because it doesn’t matter how clever you are, if God is against you; if the One who can turn a King to an animal is against you, He can deal with those People who think they are highly Educated.
Those of you who say, “You don’t need to talk to me about God.” You know I have been one of your, so I know what we used to say in those days:
We said it’s not God who created the world.
We talked about the Theory of Evolution; how the world came about from a Big Being and so on and so forth.
Some of us said well, maybe He created the ‘Big Man’ Upstairs (as we called God) or maybe He created the world, but the world became so big, that He lost Control.
And those of us who wanted to show that we are a bit more Civilized, we will say, well, let us assume that He created the world because we are not really sure how the world came to be; we said, “He is in Heaven minding His business and I am here on Earth minding my own business.”
Pride goes before a fall.
I Pray that my God will speak to those of us who are arrogant; because God resists the Proud – Amen.
… If God is against you, you’ll lose.
And He begins by showing you that if He loves you, He will wants you to be reconciled to Him:
- He will begin to show you, by you not noticing that things will begin to go wrong.
- Things will begin to happen that you cannot explain.
I’ll give you an illustration:
There was once a man in our Church – He’s gone to be with the Lord now. A very wealthy Man.
He just got up one day and said, “What is it that a Pastor is Preaching that I can’t Preach? I have money; I can build a Church of my own and then I will also become General Overseer.”
He started building the Church quite alright and then things began to happen:
Suddenly, he discovered that he would mold blocks and People would steal the blocks.
When finally he came to his senses, he discovered that somebody borrowed money from him but by the time the man was supposed to pay, he disappeared.
And the Police came to arrest him for kidnapping.
And he said, “Ha! Kidnapping? He is the one owing me.”
They said, we have been told by his wife that you are the only enemy he has.
He got the best Lawyer his money could get – That one got to the Court and forgot everything, every Law that he learned. He didn’t know what to say when he was to reply in Court.
And something told this rich man, it is God that is fighting you now, not man.
Very early one day he came to me and said, “Sorry Sir, I have been Planning to do this; but this and this are what have been happening – I’ve come to surrender to God.”
That day, before he got home the man who had gone into hiding, claiming to have been kidnapped came to his house to beg him.
Everything turned round, and he began to Prosper again.
If something is going on in your Life that your cannot explain, Be Reconciled to God!
- POSSIBILITY NO. 2: “If God is Neutral.”
If God is not against you, He is neutral – He is not fighting you; He is just leaving you alone to do things yourself, you will fail.
Because my dad used to tell me when he was alive, that when the lion wakes up in the Morning, it Prays only one Prayer, “God, show me the animal I will eat today and leave the two (2) of us alone – Don’t help me, and don’t help the animal. Just leave both of us alone.”
Because the lion knows that if God does not help that animal, it is dead!
If He just leaves you alone to the enemy, you are likely to end up a loser.
When you read Hosea 4:17 the Bible says, “Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.”
It wasn’t long after that, in Hosea 5:9 God said, Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be.
To be desolate means to be so down, that there is nothing to show that you are even around.
My Prayer for every one of you who think you can handle your Life on your own without the assistance of God is that you will wake up this evening or as you are reading now on the Label of DMC and realize, “Without God there is nothing you can do”.
You can’t even breathe without His assistance.
That is why the Bible says, “Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.” (DMC NOTES: Psalm 150:6).
I remembered in 1954 when I was in Primary School over there in Ifewara OSUN State Nigeria – There were about five (5) Rich People in the whole Village.
‘Rich’ back then means you have a Storey building covered with corrugated iron and the floor is of course, made of wood – That if you wake up in the Morning upstairs, you’ll wake up everybody downstairs.
We had a Teacher – And he was a very good Teacher now when I look back.
But he was fond of the cane – Every mistake we made, he brought out the cane.
So one day, he beat a girl and the girl reported to her father who was one of the Rich-Five.
The father came and beat up our Teacher.
Before the Teacher could get to the Local Government Police in those days to report the situation, the Rich man had settled the Police.
So the Teacher came back ashamed.
And then he did something interesting – He divided our class into two (2);
- All those that their Parents could be called Rich, by that Local Standard: he put them on one side.
- Those of us whose Parents were poor (no doubt about it), he put us on another side.
And he said to those whose Parents were rich, “I will never touch you again.”
And we were very envious of them – He never beat them one more time.
When I grew up and I looked back, not a single one of those People he put on one side and said, “I won’t touch you again”; not one of them made it beyond Primary School.
Not a single one!
… We were not too many in the Class, so it’s easy to know everybody.
But those of us that he kept caning – Because the caning that he couldn’t distribute all over the Class, he piled up for us.
Every one of us in that Group either became the Principal of a School, a Lawyer, etc.
May I ask you to lift your hand to God and say, “Lord, don’t leave me alone because if He leaves you alone, you will lose.
- POSSIBILITY NO. 3: “If God is With you.”*
If God is with you, you will Win.
It doesn’t matter how tough the battle may be like, if God is with you, you’ll win!
Because in Exodus 3:1-12, when God told Moses, I want you to go and bring the Children of Israel out of Egypt; And Moses said, Lord, how am I going to do it? I am a fugitive, while Pharaoh is the King of the world.
God told him, “I will be with you.”
In Joshua 1:1-9, when Moses died and God asked Joshua, the Servant of Moses, the Minister of Moses to take over, Joshua said, my Master Moses, who Practically saw You face to face, failed in this Assignment: How am I going to be able to do it?
God said, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.”
In 1 Samuel 17:34-51, when everybody was quaking before that great Terrorist called Goliath, David said, I will deal with him:
- I have fought a lion, I won.
- I fought a bear, I won.
The God who gave me Victory over those two (2) animals will deal with this fellow too.
King Saul said something, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
If God is with you, no matter how big the Challenge, you will win – Amen.
I remember one funny Story during the World Cup.
Nigeria was playing against Russia.
Before they started the Match, the Nigerian Team Prayed Publicly on the football field.
By Half Time, Russia was leading us 4 – 0.
So one of the Russians who spoke a little bit of English moved close to our People and said, “Where is your God? You’ve Prayed, but we are leading 4 – O.”
I remember clearly as yesterday; one of my son’s said, Daddy, what’s going on? We Prayed here too.
I got out of the house, because I couldn’t bear the agony of the children and I started crying to God: If only for the sake of these children, help us.
Suddenly, I heard, “Goal!!!!” I said, that must us scoring.
Not long after that, another Goal!!! And the Third (3rd) Goal. The fourth (4th) Goal; and then the Fifth (5th) Goal!!!
We Won. Why? Because God was with us!
Will you raise your hand to God and say, “Almighty God, Please be with me.
- POSSIBLITY NO. 4: “If God be For you.”
If God is ‘For’ you, you won’t just Win; you’ll Win Without a Fight.
- If He is with you, you’ll fight and Win.
- If He is ‘For’ you, you’ll Win Without a Fight.
Why? Because He will do the fighting for you; while you will just be watching as the enemy will become defeated before you.
The Bible says in Romans 8:37 that we are More Than Conquerors through Him that loved us.
If God loves you; If God is truly for you, you won’t need to fight – He will fight for you.
And when God fights, you’ll Win without lifting a finger.
I’ve shared this Testimony before:
We built a Church in a certain Nation – I won’t mention the name because this thing is going round the world now.
One Powerful Senator heard that we Planned to Dedicate the Church; the one built not too far from his house and he openly declared, “Over my dead body will that Church be opened.”
My children there called me. “Daddy, we’ve fixed a date for the Dedication, but there’s a Problem.
What should we do?” I said, Nothing!
They suggested Court Action. I told them, “You are dealing with a Senator: who told you he can’t influence the Judge?
We won’t do anything, because God is for us.”
A week before the Dedication, a Public Meeting was called to decide that the Church must not open – The Senator was set to lead the opposition.
As he was dressing to attend the Meeting, he mistakenly put both legs into one side of his trousers and his leg got stuck! While struggling to pull it out, he fell, hit his head and was rushed to the Hospital. He was Pronounced dead!
He wasn’t there to oppose us – And we Dedicated the Church on the Scheduled day.
Some People later asked me, “Daddy, you mean you kill him?” Me? I am far away from that Country; and we have to travel to that Country several hours by Air. How did I kill him? I didn’t even Pray.
If God is for you, you will be More than a Conqueror”.
Is there anyone here Today or reading on the Label of DMC who wants to Win without a fight? The Yes, DMC family Members.
Let me hear you say to God: “Lord, fight for me.”
This is why you must be Reconciled to God – Life is war; whether you win or lose is going to be determined by your Relationship with God.
- If God is Against you, you will Lose.
- If He is Neutral, you will Lose.
- If He is with you, you will Win.
- If He is for you, you will Win without even a Fight.
POSSIBILITIES OF RECONCILING TO GOD.
Now, when we are talking about being reconciled there are two (2) Possibilities;
- POSSIBILITY NO 1: “God used to be for you, or at least with you.”
But then you created a situation that caused Him to withdraw.
In other words, there are some of us here, or reading now on the label of DMC:
- We used to be very Close to God.
- We can trace some Miracles in our lives to His Assistance.
But then, we decided to become arrogant; and so we decided to be distant from Him.
- We don’t Pray the way we used to pray anymore.
- We already believe we know what to do; and that we know how to do it.
In Judges 15:14-19, you read the Story of Samson – How he defeated a thousand Soldiers with the jawbone of an ass, because God was with him.
He even finished fighting and became thirsty – The same jawbone that he used to kill a thousand Soldiers, brought water for him to drink.
That’s how close God was to him.
But Samson never said a word of Thanks – He never attributed any of the Victories to God just like some of us.
Just like some Students here, or reading now on the Label of DMC: Because you are doing well in Class, you never even think of God being in any way responsible for your Academic Success.
Somehow you have forgotten that it is Possible to be very good in your Subject and get into the Examination Hall and blank out.
You have forgotten that Possibility!
Some of us have forgotten the Possibility that one could become a Professor one day and become a Madman the next.
Just forgetting that we have enemies within the family.
And then Samson kept on sinning.
After that Victory, he went to the house of a harlot – A man that was loved by God; he went to spend a night in the house of a harlot.
Yet the Power was still there – He was still able to uproot the City Gate.
But it got to a stage when God said, “Alright, let’s leave this boy alone.”
If you read the Story in Judges 16:1-22, one day he woke up and discovered that God has departed from him.
You know the rest of the Story.
There was a brother – some of you have heard me talking about him again and again as I refer to him – His name was Brother Sam. He wasn’t Educated, he could only read Yoruba Bible but he was highly Anointed of God.
Brother Sam Prayed for at least three (3) known dead People and they were brought back to Life.
But then Pride came – “Brother Sam, let’s go for Bible Study?” He would say, who is going to Teach “Brother so and so?” “How many People has he raised from the dead?”
Brother Sam ended up in an Asylum.
God used to be with him. – I believe God just left him alone.
Because if God leaves you alone, the enemy will finish his job.
- POSSIBILITY NO. 2: “You do not have any Intimate Relationship with God.”
And then there is the Possibility that you really haven’t had any intimate Relationship with God.
It’s not a question of “I used to be with Him, but I am no longer with Him.”
It might be, “I’ve never really been with Him.”
If you are willing to relate with Him; to become close to Him Tonight, or as you are reading now on the Label of DMC; He’s more than willing, not just to be with you, but to be for you.
The Bible makes it clear: If you are willing to open the door of your heart to Him, He’s even willing to come and dwell in you. (DMC NOTES: Revelation 3:20)
And the Bible says, Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (DMC NOTES: 1 John 4:4)
One of the ways of making sure that for the rest of your Life, all the enemies within, enemies without, enemies in the classroom, enemies in the University, enemies in your Place of work will not be able to handle your situation is, “because Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”.
So God says, if only you are willing to open the door of your heart so that He can come in; for the rest of your Life you will know Victory.
The important thing is that it is never too late.
He says in Matthew 11:28-30, Come unto me, all ye that Labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
God is appealing to you (through us): “Be Reconciled to God!
I will close with one little Story you Probably have heard before.
Because the Bible says today is the Acceptable Time; this is the Day of Salvation (DMC NOTES: 2 Corinthians 6:2).
One High Chief in Yorubaland, who happened to be one of my children in the Lord was celebrating quite a few things in the family and he asked me to come and Preach.
When I got there, as we were about to begin the Service, his Chiefs that came to celebrate with him were filing in – And they belonged to all manners of Secret Societies.
The Ushers saw them coming, they ran to me, “Sir, are we going to allow these People to come inside?” I said, of course! Put them on the Front Seats where it would be easier for Jesus to reach them.
They came in. I was a younger Pastor then; I had a lot of Zeal, not much Wisdom.
I changed the Topic of my Sermon – I was going to talk on “Oh, that men would Praise the Lord”; I changed it to “The Battle on Mount Camel.”
And I am telling you, I hit hard on the devil.
And then I challenged those Chiefs – I said, I came here with my wife and son in car Number so and so. I want you to speak to your own gods, that one of the tyres of my car would go flat: “If all your gods can do that, I will surrender to them but if they can’t do that, you must surrender to my God.”
And then I gave the Altar Call – The Second-In-Command to the Kabiyesi (Meaning King) was the first one to come forward to give his Life to Jesus Christ.
While he was coming forward, all the Younger Chiefs – I mean, when they saw their Leader coming out, they followed.
When we finished the Service, the Kabiyesi (King) said, “Maybe this man didn’t understand what you said.” Because he’s the High Priest of the devil. Maybe he was thinking you were asking People to come out for Healing Prayers. “Let’s follow him up.”
We went to his house, Kabiyesi (King) said, “Do you really know what you did?”
He said, you see a “Small Boy” like this challenging all of us; who does not know that there must be Somebody behind him?
He said, “It is the One behind him that I surrendered to.”
He was a very old man – Do you know a Month later, he died? All these years he had served the devil but one day like this, he changed his Mind and today he is in Heaven. He could have been in Hell.
God brought you here Tonight; we don’t know how many of us will still be alive by this time tomorrow – This is an opportunity for you to surrender to God.
Be Reconciled to God and you can become a Winner all the days of your Life – Amen.
ALTAR CALL
So if you want to surrender your Life for the first (1st) time to Jesus Christ come quickly.
I am going to count from one (1) to ten (10) – Before I say ten (10) come and stand before the Altar, and we will Pray for your Salvation.
If you used to be a True Child of God before and you backslide; now you want to be Reconciled to God come, we will Pray for Reconciliation for you.
I am counting from one (1) to ten (10) now…
Okay! Let’s cry to God and say Father, I’ve come to surrender my Life to You. I can’t fight the Battles of my Life alone;
Help me, save my Soul, forgive all my sins and from now on I will have nothing to do with the devil anymore.
Go ahead, Pray unto Him.
And the rest of us, Please let’s Stretch our hands towards these People and Pray for them:
That the Almighty God who saved our Souls, would save their own Souls also.
All the backsliders who are coming back to God, Pray that the Almighty God will receive them back into Fellowship with Him.
Please Pray for them for another one minute.
Thank You Father.
In Jesus’ Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
PRAYER FOR SALVATION AND CLOSING PRAYER
My Father and my God, I want to say Thank You.
Thank You for Your Word and Thank You for these People who have Genuinely responded to the Altar Call today.
Please Lord, receive them in Jesus’ Name.
Have Mercy on them, save their souls, let Your Blood wash away their sins.
Father, write their names in the Book of Life.
Receive them into the Family of God.
And from this moment onward, whenever they call on You, answer them by Fire.
And give them Total Victory for the rest of their lives.
Those of them who have come to Rededicate their lives to You, Please receive them.
Please Lord, restore them into Fellowship with You and don’t let them ever backslide again.
My Father and my God, I am Praying for everybody here Tonight, and those reading now on the Label of DMC:
I Pray that in the Battles of Life, You will give us Victory.
If there is anything we are doing that can cause You to be against us; from Tonight onward, give us the Grace never to do it again.
If there is anything in our lives that has caused You to leave us alone; O LORD God Almighty, I Pray that because of our decision to be Reconciled to You; my Lord and my Saviour, bring us back into Fellowship with You.
Fight our Battles for us;
Make us More than Conquerors.
For the rest of our lives, let us live in Victory.
In Jesus’ Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
I rejoice with those of you have just surrendered your Life Genuinely to Jesus Christ.
I want to Promise you that by the Grace of God that I’ll be Praying for you.
So I am going to need your names, your Address and your Prayer Requests.
Congratulations!
Those of you who are really ready to be Reconciled to God, shall we Please stand?

PERSONAL PRAYER REQUEST
I want you to cry to the Almighty God and say:
Father, I can’t fight the Battles of my Life alone; Please fight for me.
Open your mouth and cry to God: Almighty God, Please Fight for me!
