OPENING PRAYER
Our Father, our Keeper, our Lover, our Sustainer.
The One in Him we move, in Him we live, and have our being; The Creator of all the Universe.
We Thank You for Your Mercy and Grace.
We Thank You that thus far You have brought us.
We Thank You Lord, for the Fortieth (40th) Anniversary of the Special Holy Ghost Service.
Lord, we give You all the Praise and Honour.
Be Thou highly exalted in Jesus’ Name.
Father, even as Your Word comes forth, may it transform our hearts.
May the Light of Your Word illuminate our lives.
Lord, we vow to return all Glory to You.
For in Jesus’ Name we Pray – Amen.
Let somebody shout Hallelujah – Hallelujah.
I count it a great privilege to be asked to share God’s Word briefly with us this Evening.
And I am forever grateful to our father-in-the-Lord, and our Mother in Israel – Daddy and Mummy GO.
Thank you for this privilege.
And to our father who is Celebrating his 84th Birthday; we Pray that God will continue to Strengthen you, in the Name of Jesus – Amen.
And Congratulations Daddy and Mummy, on the Fortieth (40th) Anniversary of the Special Holy Ghost Service.
It is our Prayers that God will continue to Uphold and Strengthen you Daddy and Mummy, in Jesus’ Name – Amen!
To our fathers and mothers in the House, including those reading now on the Label of DMC:
Thank you for this privilege.
May God continue to Bless you all, in Jesus’ Name – Amen!
Our Topic for this Evening is Excellence.
And I’ll be taking my Bible Text from the Book of 2 Peter 1:3.
I am reading from the New King James Version (NKJV) which says:
As His Divine Power has given to us all things that Pertains to Life and Godliness, through the Knowledge of Him who called us by Glory and Virtue.
The Amplified Version of 2 Peter 1:3 says: .
For His Divine Power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic Spiritual] Life and Godliness, through true and Personal Knowledge of Him who called us by His Own Glory and Excellence.
Our God is an Excellent God – Nothing about our God is average.
In Genesis 1:31, the Scripture says: And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the Evening and the Morning were the sixth day.
And as Children of God; as Children of an Excellent God, it is expected that we manifest the same reality of our Father.
The Book of Ephesians 2:10 says, For we are God’s Workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God Prepared in advance as our way of Life.
And as God’s Workmanship; as His Masterpiece, we are expected to replicate the qualities of our Maker – Hallelujah!
We have not only been called to the Life of Excellence; we have also been empowered to live the Life of Excellence.
The Bible Text we read (2 Peter 1:3, NKJV) says, “His Divine Power has given to us all things that Pertains to Life and Godliness.”
- So the Power to be Excellent is not farfetched;
- The Power to be Excellent is already in the Redemptive Package.
So, if you are not living the Life of Excellence, you are not making good use of the Package of Redemption already given to you by the Death of Jesus Christ.
After today, may the Power of Excellence begin to manifest in you, in Jesus’ Name – Amen.
WHAT IS EXCELLENCE?
- Excellence refers to the quality of being Outstanding and Exceptionally good.
It is the desire to stand out in one’s endeavours.
- Excellence is the ability to carry out tasks with Precision and Intentionality.
It is going the extra miles in ensuring that the job is not just done, but that the job is done well.
The Book of Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.
It takes an Excellent man to do work with all his might.
- An Excellent Man is always aware of the Reality and the Requirements of his Assignment.
And he sees to it that he Performs optimally.
- He does not settle for less.
- He does not stop halfway.
- He does not stop when the going becomes rough.
But he sees to it that he delivers on his Assignment.
And he does not only delivers; he delivers optimally.
WHAT IS MEDIOCRITY?
There is an opposite of Excellence – And that is Mediocrity.
Mediocrity is the quality of being comfortable with Average Life.
After today, Average will no longer be associated with you, in Jesus’ Name – Amen.
Whereas a Mediocre will settle for what is obtainable now, an Excellent Man is the one with the Believe System that will not settle for what is obtainable now:
- He is never content with the current Provision.
- He is content with the current blessing made available; but he does not lose touch with the reality that, “There is More!”
No wonder Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:14 said; I press toward the mark for the Prize of the High Calling of God in Christ Jesus.
It takes a man of Excellence to press for more.
Today I decree that you will receive the Grace to Press for More, in Jesus’ Name- Amen.
… What is Excellence?
- A man of Excellence is the one whose Absolute Trust is in God.
The Bible says in Psalm 112:5-7; A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. Surely he shall not be moved forever: the Righteous shall be in Everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
The Bible says, “his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord”.
- An Excellent Believer is a Soul Winner.
Proverbs 11:30 says, The fruit of the Righteous is a tree of Life, and he who wins Souls is wise.
Our father-in-the-Lord over time has spoken about Vision 2032: A Vision that is centered on Soul Winning.
And as Excellent Believers, it is important that we get involved.
As you give yourself to Soul Winning, may you receive the Blessings attached, in Jesus’ Name – Amen.
- Excellence is marked by Steadfastness and not Compromise.
A man of Excellence is one whose Standards would not Change, even when faced with unfavourable Conditions.
The Bible says in Daniel 1:8, But Daniel Purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the Portion of the King’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the Chief of the Eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Excellent men are Steadfast.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
WHY OPT FOR EXCELLENCE?
The Question arises:
- Why should we operate in Excellence?
- If there is room for Mediocrity, why should we opt for Excellence?
- Our God is Excellent.
And the very first reason we should opt for Excellence is because our God is Excellent.
Say to your Neighbours: “Our God is Excellent.”
The Bible says in Genesis 1:31, And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the Evening and the Morning were the sixth day.
The Scripture in Acts 10:38 says, Jesus went about doing good – How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with Power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
And as children of an Excellent God, made in His Image and Likeness; we invariably have no business with Mediocrity.
The Scripture in 1 John 4:17 says, Herein is our Love made Perfect, that we may have boldness on the day of Judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
So, if our God is an Excellent God, it is expected that we replicate Him here on Earth.
- For Kingdom Influence.
Another reason why we should opt for Excellence, is for Kingdom Influence.
The Book of Roman 8:19 says, For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
… Creation is waiting for our Manifestation.
And the Version of us that creation wants, is not the Mediocre Version.
Why? Because we will not be able to command the Influence needed to Propagate the Gospel if we are not Outstanding.
The Propagation of the Gospel needs influence. And Mediocres have no place on the Table of Influence.
Today I decree, may the Grace to become Influential for the Kingdom, rest upon you, in Jesus’ Name – Amen.
- The world want Excellent Men, whose encounter with Jesus is Palpable;
- People whose encounter with Jesus is seen in their Character and Conduct.
- People whose Character will not Change, regardless of the situation.
And our ability to operate on that height will give us the needed Influence to spread the Gospel.
I decree from today, may your encounter with Jesus be evident for all men to see, in the Name of Jesus – Amen
WHAT QUALIFIES ONE FOR EXCELLENCE
What qualifies one to operate in Excellence?
Now, there are a few things that qualify one to operate in Excellence:
- Integrity:
The Book of Proverbs 11:3 says, The Integrity of the Upright shall guide them: but the Perverseness of Transgressors shall destroy them.
Integrity provides morale direction; keeping a man aligned with Excellence.
- Diligence:
The Book of Proverbs 22:29 says, Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
Diligence is not built in the Presence of the King; rather, it is what attracts the King.
Diligence attract Kings. And it elevates one to the place of Honour and Distinction.
In Daniel 1:4, the King sought for Men of Excellence:
Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and Skilful in all Wisdom, and cunning in Knowledge, and Understanding Science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the King’s Palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
After today, Kings will send for you, in Jesus’ Name – Amen.
- Discipline:
1 Corinthians 9:25 says, And every man that striveth for Mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible Crown; but we, an Incorruptible.
- Excellence requires Restraint;
- And it requires Intentional Self-Discipline.
- Consistency and Stability:
An unstable man can not be Excellent.
Find a Path and be consistent.
- When we hear your name, what comes to Mind?
- What can we attach your name to when it is mentioned?
Reuben, for example!
Jacob said to Reuben in Genesis 49:4, Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.
For Excellence to find Expression, there has to be Stability and Purpose.
There has to be consistency in the Vision God has given you; Because, Excellence spring from where Stability and Consistency have been built.
- A Relationship with God:
The Bible Text we read (2 Peter 1:3, NKJV) says, As His Divine Power has given to us all things that Pertains to Life and Godliness, through the Knowledge of Him who called us by Glory and Virtue,
- You cannot know the God you do not have a Relationship with;
- And your Relationship with God sets you on the Path of Excellence.
So, if you are yet to have a Relationship with God, as our father-in-the-Lord makes the Altar Call, do not hesitate to respond.
MODELS OF EXCELLENCE
Quickly, let’s look at an examples of someone who Modelled Excellence in the Bible and in our world today:
- Daniel:
The Scripture says in Daniel 6:3, Then this Daniel was Preferred above the Presidents and Princes, because an Excellent Spirit was in him; and the King thought to set him over the whole realm.
Daniel was Preferred above others:
- When you are Excellent, you cannot be Marginalized.
- When you are Excellent, you have no business with Failure.
You can’t carry an Excellent Spirit and fail.
Today I decree that Failure ceases in your Life, in the Name of Jesus – Amen.
Things that made Daniel Stand Out.
There are a few things that made Daniel Stand Out, even in a Strange Land:
I. Daniel had Integrity.
II. Daniel maintained a strong Prayer Life.
III. He was Faithful and Disciplined.
IV. He also remained Consistent, even under Pressure.
- Pastor E.A Adeboye:
Our father-in-the-Lord, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide has also modelled Excellence.
- For Forty five (45) Years, he has been the General Overseer of this Commission.
- And for Forty (40) Years consistently, the Special Holy Ghost Service has been held.
That is Consistency; that is Stability; that is Excellence!
… I thought Somebody would shout Hallelujah – Hallelujah!!!!
An Excellent Man is the one who reaches for More; and does not settle for less.
Our father-in-the-Lord, by the help of the Holy Spirit, has taken us from the very first Auditorium to the second Auditorium, to the third Auditor (now refered to as the Old Auditorium).
And now, we are in the New 3 by 3 Kilometers Auditorium.
Brethren, we have no excuse not to live a Life of Excellence!
If you have been blessed, rise up on your feet (if you can); we want to Pray.
PRAYER POINTS
- With your hand lifted up say: Father; from today, may Excellence reflect in all that I am and in all that I do.
Go ahead and make that Prayer:
May Excellence be seen in all that I am and in all that I do.
May I do Business like a Man of Excellence.
May I lead as a Man, as a Woman, as a Youth of Excellence.
May Excellence be reflected in all that I do.
Mediocrity has no place in me, in the Name of Jesus.
In Jesus’ Name we Pray – Amen!
- The Book of 1 Chronicles 4:10, the Bible says, And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my Territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
When Jabez asked the Lord to expand his Coast and Increase his Territory; he was invariably asking for Increased Influence.
And as Children of God, the Gospel needs Influence to be Propagated.
I need you to lift up your hand and say: Father; Increase my Influence for the Kingdom.
Go ahead and make that Prayer!
