OPENING PRAYER
Father, we bless Your Holy Name. What a Mighty Man You are Oh Lord. You are the One who can do all things; You can reverse the Irreversible – Oh Father, accept our Worship in Jesus Name.
Today, even as Your Words will be going forth; Please save Souls, heal the Sick, Open Blind eyes, let the Deaf hear, let the Dead rise, let the Lame walk, let Miracles galore happen to Your Children.
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
We will continue with our Series on: “GOING HIGHER – PART 51
Our Bible Text will be: 1 Kings 19: 9-12.
- And he (That is Elijah) came thither unto a Cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the Word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
- And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of Hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy Covenant, thrown down thine Altars, and slain thy Prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
- And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the Mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a Great and Strong Wind rent the Mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the Wind: and after the Wind an Earthquake; but the LORD was not in the Earthquake:
- And after the Earthquake a Fire; but the LORD was not in the Fire: and after the Fire a Still Small Voice.
Today, I just want to talk on: “THE STILL SMALL VOICE”.
We could spend weeks again on this Section but I will allow the Holy Spirit to teach you whatever I jumped over.
Elijah travelled – Forty (40) Days and Forty (40) Nights; without food, without water to keep an Appointment with God. Then he arrived on Mount Horeb and it was God who told him to go there.
And you see here that God is a God of Humour – He is the One who asked him to come, he has arrived and God now said: Elijah, what are you doing there?
… Funny Question – Our God is a God of Humour.
And just in case you want to begin to wonder how can this be? What about us His Children? – We also ask some very unnecessary Questions.
They give you the Microphone to Pray and you say: Shall we Pray?
Suppose Somebody jumped up and say: We are not going to Pray? What are you going to do? Of course, we are going to Pray!
But then, God then said – You want to keep an Appointment with me; I want you to move out of the Cave, go and Stand Out there so that we can talk.
And then all of a sudden, Wind began to blow and after the Wind, the quake was a big Earthquake and after the Earthquake, there was Fire and yet God was not in any of them.
- First was the Wind.
The Wind I think I told you before in this Series is just coming as an “Advance Guard”.
In Acts 2: 1-4; the Bible tells us that on the Day of Pentecost, there was a Sound like that of a Rushing Mighty Wind.
…. Just an “Advance Guard”.
- Then the Quake.
Quake is just to announce – Okay, I’m here!
Remember Acts 16: 25–26; when God arrived after Paul and Silas began to Praise Him; the Earth shook.
Remember that the Bible says in Isaiah 66:1; that Heaven is His Throne and the Earth His Footstool.
If God is sitting in Heaven and His Legs is touching the Earth; then you know how big the legs must be. And so when He gets up to begin to move, the Earth is bound to shake.
Infact Psalms 114:7 says – Tremble Earth, in the Presence of your Lord.
When God is moving, the Earth is bound to tremble – Psalms 114:7.
- Then the Fire.
According to Psalms 97:3; the Bible said that the Fire goes before Him to burn up His enemies round about Him – Should in case any Obstruction is on the way, the Fire will clear the way.
It tells us what happened when there is a “True Divine Appointment” – First the Wind will blow, then the Earth will quake and then the Fire will fall.
But what we are interested in today is not the quaking or the Wind blowing or the Fire burning. We are only interested in the “Still Small Voice” of God.
You see, Divine Voice can be in Categories:
- There is that Majesty Voice of God – Powerful, Thunderous; that the Bible talks about in Psalms 29: 3-9.
The Bible tells us that the Word of God is Powerful; Full of Majesty. The Voice can break Cedars of Lebanon; His Voice can divide Flames of Fire; His Voice can shake Wilderness, His Voice can even make Animal delivers.
That is the kind Voice that I’m sure that He used in Genesis 1:3 – Let there be Light and there was Light.
I mean for Example in John 12: 28-30; when Jesus Christ was Praying and said: Father, Glorify thy Name. The Father roared back – Son, I have both Glorified it and will Glorify it again.
How do I know that He spoke with that Majesty Voice? – Because the People who are there said that it Thunders.
… They didn’t know that it was the Voice of God – They thought it was Thunder.
So, the Voice of God can be Powerful, it can be Thunderous!
- The same Voice can be Loud and Urgent.
Not quite as Thunderous as it was before; He can make it Loud:
I. Loud enough for the Dead to hear – That must be Loud.
John 11: 39-44 – When He stood by the tomb of Lazarus, he cried: Lazarus, come forth.
… Even the Dead heard – That must be Pretty Loud!
II. And then in John 7: 37-39 – The Bible tells us that People were in a feast, they were rejoicing, eating, drinking and there was a lot of Noise.
Jesus Christ cried out on that Last Day of the feast and said: If any Man thirst, come to Me and drink.
It was Loud enough to cause everybody to Pay attention.
… There was a crowd there and they were in Celebration mood with lot of Noise going on and so He has to raise His Voice!
- Then the Voice of the Lord can be Loud but Friendly; Loud and Reassuring.
Like in Matthew 14: 22-27 – The Disciples of Jesus Christ were in a boat, there was a Storm and then they saw Jesus Christ walking on water towards them. They thought that it must be a Ghost and so they were afraid.
The Bible said that they cried out in Fear – Twelve (12) “Mighty Voices” cried out in Fear.
So, His Own Voice has to be Loud enough to subdue the Voice of the twelve (12) Men – But it was Reassuring Voice: Hey, Fear Not; it is I.
- But then His Voice can then be Softer than that – It could be Loud enough for you to hear but it can be Invitational.
I. Like in the same Matthew 14: 28-29 – When Peter said that if it is You, bid me to come. And He said: Come!
Surely, it must have been Loud for Peter to hear but it is not the same as: Lazarus Come forth!
But then, He can lower His Voice still and talk just like you and I talk normally – You know as friends talking to friends. You don’t need to shout but at least Loud enough for all of us to hear.
II. Like in John 15: 14-17 – Just Conversational. You are my friends if you do whatsoever I Command you.
You see – I’m not calling you Servant anymore now. I’m calling you friends.
You know that kind of Voice – That is “Not Loud’. You don’t shout on your friends. If a friend is shouting on another friend; maybe there is something wrong.
- But then, there is the “Still Small Voice”.
What you Probably called a Whisper. Something that they says: This is for your ears Only!
I. John 13: 21-26 – You know the Story at the Last Supper. When they are eating (Thirteen (13) of them at the Table – The Lord Jesus Christ Himself and the Lord’s Disciples); suddenly the Lord said that one of you is going to betray me. And everyone was saying: Ha, who can that be? Is it me? And the Lord was not answering.
Then Peter beckoned to John the Beloveth. And Peter says: Hey, if He (Jesus Christ) won’t tell anybody, He will tell you – Ask Him!
So, John moved closer still and said: Lord, who it it? And the Lord said: Well, don’t let me mention his name. But I will take a Piece of bread, Put it in the stew and put it into the mouth of the Traitor.
… For your ears Only!
II. Isaiah 30:21 says that when you are going and you get to a Crossroad; and you don’t know where to turn; you will hear a Word behind you saying: This is the Way, walk in it.
III. “Still Small Voice”; the kind that the Bible refers to in Revelation 2:7 – He that has ears to hear, let Him hear.
Do you know that it is Possible for a crowd to gather and God will be speaking and only one fellow will be hearing?
I remembered Years ago, we went for a Program in Kenya – World Conference of Pentecostals in the Year 1976.
There was a crowd in the Hall and we are having a Session of the Program called: The Medidation Time.
The Musician was Playing the Guitar and Singing a Song and we were all there (Papa Kumuyi was there too and others).
And right there with that crowd; was the first time that I saw a Vision of Heaven. And I saw what I saw, went, came back with that amount of Noise. But right there in the crowd, Somebody was hearing and seeing what God wanted him to see.
I Pray in the Name that is above every other names that no matter the crowd; you will from today begin to hear the “Still Small Voice” – Amen!
Proverbs 20:12 says: The “Hearing Ear” and the “Seeing Eyes”, the Lord has made them all.
What does He (God) mean by the “Hearing Ear”?
There are ears that are just there and are not hearing anything – I’m not talking of Dead People now; we are talking about those who are deaf Spiritually.
I remembered the first time that I attended a Fellowship when I was just Born Again at the University of Lagos – Somebody took me there.
We were Worshipping God – I liked the Worship even though I didn’t know most of the Songs then. I was just going along and making a Joyful Noise to God.
Then all of a sudden, as if Somebody was coordinating the thing – All of a sudden, everybody became Silent and then one Fellow began to Prophesy: Thus saith the Lord – This, This, This.
I said to the Fellow who took me there – When did God say that?
He asked me to keep quiet as God was speaking. I said that i can’t hear anything – Only one Fellow was hearing.
After that Day, I Prayed to God – I must hear from God. And Thank God that I have been hearing Him since then.
Because in Matthew 13:16; the Bible says that: Blessed are your ears because they can hear.
There are ears that cannot hear anything
Some People harrassed me saying: You are Preaching at the Holy Ghost Service (HGS) and suddenly, you stopped and say: Thank You Daddy; there is Someone here …
And bang, right on target; you mentioned my case. How come you heard that? Why can’t I hear the same thing?
I said: You can’t!
There is something called “The Ministry of The Prophet” and the Prophet hears what others don’t hear.
I. In 1 Kings 18:41; only Elijah heard the Sound of Abundance of Rain – Nobody else heard the Sound.
II. In 2 Kings 2: 19-22; up till today, we don’t know how Elisha could turn to the Men of Jericho and said: Go and bring me Salt in a New Vessel.
And then, he went to the Source of their River and Pour in the Salt and then decreed over the City.
How did he know what to do?
Whoever told him (I’m sure it is not Elijah) that if some People come to you and then said that we have Problems in our Land, that there is Miscarriages, Barrenness, Death; what you should do is to ask for Salt.
I know a Prophet who has built a Ministry on “Bringing Your Salt” when you are coming to Church – By Salt he means: Money.
Where was it in the Bible that Elisha read that once upon a time, when some People came to Elijah that they needed a Miracle and Elijah said: Go and bring Salt? – It is not there!
But God spoke to him (Elisha) by a “Still Small Voice” – That is what made the Prophet different from other People.
I’m mentioning this because as we are “Going Higher”; many of you in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ will begin to hear the “Still Small Voice” of God – Amen!
Let me Conclude:
HOW CAN I HEAR HIS VOICE?
- Psalms 95: 7-8 says that: If you want to hear His Voice, hardened not your Heart.
What does that mean?
Because God has been talking to you about certain things you must stop doing but you will say: Well, God knows that I’m a Human Being and Human Being can’t be Perfect.
Do you know that you are wrong? – God says that you should confess and restitute your ways but you become Stubborn – Then you can’t hear His Voice!
- This is for those who are not yet Born Again.
Jesus Christ said in John 10:27 – He said that my Sheep hears My Voice.
I. You can’t hear Him if you are not one of His Sheep.
II. You can’t hear Him until first and foremost you surrender your Life to Jesus Christ – Become Born Again (Become His Own); and then you begin to hear His Voice.
ALTAR CALL
So, those of you who will want to surrender your Lives to Jesus Christ; wherever you are now or reading now this Message on the Label of DMC; bow your Head now and cry unto Him and say: Lord, have Mercy on me; save my Soul; I want to become one of your Sheep because I want to begin to hear your Voice.
Let Us Pray!
PRAYER FOR SALVATION AND CLOSING PRAYER
My Father and my God, I want to Thank You once again for Your Words; I want to Thank You for Your Voice that can come in “Conversational Tone” like I have been talking to Your People now and telling them what to do.
I’m asking Lord God Almighty that as many of them that might have responded to the Altar Call; as many of them that has said: Yes Lord, I want to surrender to You; I want to be one of your Sheep – Please, receive them, save their Souls, let Your Blood wash away their sins.
Please my Father and my God, receive them into the Fold where Your Sheep are gathered together.
And I Pray that from now on, they will be hearing from you.
As for those of us who are already Your Children, who has been growing Steadily in You; Please Lord, even from today, grant us the Grace to be hearing your “Still Small Voice” so that we will never go astray.
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen!

Once again, I rejoice with those of you who has given your Life to Jesus Christ. I Promise you in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ that from now on, I will be Praying for You.
