OPENING PRAYER
Our Father in Heaven, we Thank You!
We give You Praise for the things You are doing in our midst.
Lord, we ask that Your Word brings Light and Understanding.
We ask that it Pierce through our Souls; dividing between the Souls and Spirits, and between Joints and Marrow.
Lord, we ask that as we look into Your Word this Evening: It will speak Tonight.
And it will breathe upon us, our Spirits will be enlightened and our Hearts will be Enlightened.
Thank You Father.
For in Jesus’ Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
This Evening, I want to use this opportunity to appreciate our father and mother in the Lord – Daddy and Mummy G.O, for the Privilege to speak to God’s People.
I do not take it for granted.
I want to appreciate every Single Leader of the Youth and Young Adults (YAYA) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) for this Privilege.
I Pray that the Lord continually Bless us in the Name of Jesus.
This Evening I will be speaking to us on Gate Protectors.
And I will be taking my Bible Text from Psalm 127:1;
Except the LORD build the House, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the City, the Watchman waketh but in vain.
Hallelujah!
If you look at this Bible Passage, you would realize that just as it has been said: God is the Ultimate Protector.
He is the Ultimate Watchman – “Except the LORD keep the City, the Watchman waketh but in vain.”
You would want to ask the Question: “What then am I Protecting?”
What am I supposed to be doing as a Gate Protector if the Lord is the One Watching the City?
Interestingly Psalm 127:2 makes it a little bit more complicated – It says: It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
Is the Bible saying we should all be sleeping because God is the One Watching over us?
God is the Ultimate Protector – He is the One watching over the City.
What then am I supposed to be doing as a Gate Protector? What is my responsibility?
… Before we answer the Question.
WHAT IS A GATE?
A Gate represents Access, Authority, and Opportunities.
You have a Gate in almost every entrance to certain Places – Your House has a Gate; your Cities have Gates.
Gates represent Access, represent Authority, and they represent Opportunities.
Whoever controls the Gate determines what goes into any City or any House and what goes out of a Particular house or City.
MY RESPONSIBILITY AS A GATE PROTECTOR
What we will be considering majorly this Evening, is what we are supposed to be doing as Gate Protectors?
*Since the Lord is the Ultimate Protector: What are my responsibilities as a Watchman? What am I supposed to be doing as a Watchman?
Habakkuk 2:1-2 says:
I will Stand upon my Watch, and set myself upon the Tower, and will Watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the Vision, and make it Plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Habakkuk uses the same word used in Psalm 127:1 – Watch.
“I will Stand upon my Watch.”
What Habakkuk is saying here is that he himself has come to understand that he is a Gate Protector, hence he has to Stand upon his Watch.
There are two (2) things I want us to take note of, which Habakkuk mentioned:
- “I will watch to See.”
It is very important to note that; As a Watchman, one of the things you should pay attention to is what you See and what you Hear.
Let me ask you: Have you ever seen a House where the Watchman or Gate Protector is Blind or Deaf?
You will never find a Watchman or a Gate Protector without sight (eyes) – Very interestingly.
This is because, as Gate Protectors your eyes are your first instruments.
Because you cannot even Watch a Gate if you cannot see with your eyes!
- “What He will Say.”
Meaning, there is what the Lord would say at every Gate.
- Gate Protectors, what are you hearing?
- What is the Lord saying concerning the Gate where you have been Positioned?
- What are you seeing?
Because without the eyes and the ears, we cannot be Gate Protectors.
When the Bible says, “Except the Lord watch the City…”
He wants us to understand that as Gate Protectors, all He expects from us is to be able to Stand, Watch, and Hear what the Lord is saying to us, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Army of God.
All we need to do is Stand Still and Hear what He is going to say to us; and then carry out the Instructions.
We don’t have to do so much.
HOW TO BE A GATE PROTECTOR
Some of us might be wondering:
- How do I rise up to be a Gate Protector?
- What do I need to start doing?
Do I need to go to the Gym to start lifting weights, so I can have muscles to Protect the Gate?
You don’t have to do that!
All you need to do is Pay Attention to what God is saying, and hearken to all He wants you to do
I want to show us a few things outlined in Proverbs 4:23 – Keep thy Heart with all Diligence; for out of it are the issues of Life.
This almost sounds like what Habakkuk said.
If you read Proverbs 4:1 the Bible says, Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know Understanding.
Meaning you must be able to Pay Attention to what God is saying.
You claim to be a Child of God; you know the Bible, yet you do not recognize when God is the One speaking – You are not a Gate Protector.
What is the Lord saying to you?
How do you keep my Heart? – “Keep thy Heart with all Diligence.”
THREE (3) MAJOR THINGS ABOUT GATE PROTECTORS.
I will be speaking to us on Three (3) Major things about being Gate Protectors:
- ENEMIES AT THE GATE
What are the Enemies that I am fighting against?
What are the Enemies at the Gate that I have been called to Protect?
Matthew 16:18 says, And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church; and the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against it.
“… the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail.”
Remember, Psalm 127:1 says God is the One Watching over the City.
Now Jesus is saying to Peter, “I will build my Church.”
The Church is the Body of Christ – I will build my Ecclesia; I will build my Institution called the Church.
He said that, so you will not assume the Church is one weak entity that needs to shake at the threat of Hell.
*We will leave here today, Understanding that Hell is no threat at all; and that Hell is not a threat to begin with.
He says, “I will build my Church; and the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against it.”
The Enemy here is the Gates of Hell.
Whatever device Hell has, the Systems of the world, they cannot Prevail.
So, if the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail, what then am I supposed to be doing?
If the Enemy we are fighting is Hell; and the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against His Church: What is Hell trying to do?
In John 10:10 the Bible says, The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have Life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Right?
The Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against what God has given to you:
- Which is Authority.
- Which is Power.
What is Hell going to do?
I will give you an illustration: How do you steal what you cannot touch?
If I am going to steal something I don’t even have the Power to touch – I should be able to play tricks.
For Example, if your car is parked outside the house and somebody walks up to you and says: Young Man, did you park a car outside? And you say Yes, I did. He says, what colour, “A Black SUV.”
And the fellow tells you, we are sorry to inform you that your car has been stolen.
Without you going to check where you parked your car, you begin to roll on the flour screaming, “my Car!
In actual fact, the car was never stolen but you believe that your car is gone.
If I can convince you that you no longer have a car, and you are crying already; I can go outside, drive the car away comfortably without any Problem. Hallelujah!
Let me tell you one of the biggest names of Satan – The Bible calls him “the father of all liars.”
So whatever the devil has said about that Gate is a lie.
Tell your neighbour: It is a dirty lie!
- They say Nobody can become Great in your family: It is a Dirty Lie.
- They say Nobody can Graduate from the University in your Generation: It is a Dirty Lie.
Do you know what it means to be the father of all Liarrs?
It means no Truth can ever come out of his mouth.
Let me shock you; If you are actually wearing a blue shirt, and Satan says “This your shirt is blue” – it becomes a lie.
That is how Powerful a Liar he is – He doesn’t have the Capacity to tell the Truth.
So quit allowing Satan tell you lies – Never again.
So the Enemy we are up against is Hell and it’s Gates.
- WHAT IS THE NATURE OF THIS BATTLE?
… That’s the second thing I’ll be speaking to you about.
- What is the Nature of the Battle you are fighting?
- What is the Nature of the Gate I have been called to Protect?
- What am I doing there?
We are not fighting an Offensive Battle; we are not fighting to win – We are fighting from Victory.
That is the Nature of our Battle – We fight from Victory!
Let me explain what it means to fight from Victory;
In the Old Testament, we read about Kings going to war with other Kingdoms, and defeating those Kingdoms.
What they do is that they put Armies there to enforce the Victories they have won over that Territory.
Roman Soldiers are Posted all over the Place to enforce strict Obedience to the Roman Laws.
When you have been Victorious in Battle, what the Armed Forces Men do is to take the Position of Law Enforcement Agents.
They are put there to enforce the Victories, so that the People do not wake up one day feeling they are on their own.
“No, you are not on your own – You are under us, because we have won the Victories.”
Let me bring it back home, Jesus has given us Victory – Right?
Our responsibility in this Battle is to become Enforcement Agents – Hallelujah!
Let me announce to you; the next time Sickness knocks on your door tell it: Hey, I am in Charge, get out!
The Victory has been given to me; I have the Keys; I am in Charge – I am a Law Enforcement Agent for the Kingdom of God.
That is what it means to be a Gate Protector – We are not trying to win the Gate, He has built His Church, and there is no argument with that. “The Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against His Church.”
It is not even a conversation, because the Gates of Hell cannot!
But then, it is so sad that a lot of Believers do not understand how to enforce their Victory.
… And that is the last thing I’ll be speaking to us about this Evening.
- HOW TO ENFORCE VICTORY AT THE VARIOUS GATES
How do I enforce Victories at the various Gates the Lord has Placed me?
When He said, “The Gates of Hell shall not Prevail…”
You should know that the Kingdom of Heaven has Gates too – Because He said, “I will build my Church…”
You have been Placed somewhere – “What is my first responsibility as a Law Enforcement Agent? It is to enforce the Victory the Lord has given to me.
WHAT ARE THE WEAPONS OF MY ENFORCEMENT?
- The Word of God:
Your first Weapon of Enforcement is the Word of God.
Hebrews 4:12 says, For the Word of God is Quick, and Powerful, and Sharper than any twoedged sword, Piercing even to the dividing asunder of Soul and Spirit, and of the Joints and marrow, and is a Discerner of the thoughts and intents of the Heart.
The Word of God is a very vital Weapon, because it is Quick and Active.
What is it Quick to do?
- To divide what is in the Spirit;
- To divide what is in the Soul;
- To divide between Joints and marrow;
- And it is a Discerner of the thoughts and intents of the Heart.
Don’t forget, I said earlier that how Satan can steal from you something he cannot touch is to play tricks on you.
It is to convince you; Just as he said to Eve, “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the Garden?” (DMC NOTES: Genesis 3:1).
The vital tool you have against the devil is the Word of God – The Word of God makes you discern between Good and Evil.
- The Weapons of our Warfare:
Corinthians 10:3-5 says, For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the Weapons of our Warfare are not Carnal, but Mighty through God to the pulling down of Strong holds;) Casting down Imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the Knowledge of God, and bringing into Captivity every thought to the Obedience of Christ;
- How do we war?
- What would be our Weapons?
I know most of us are familiar with Strong holds as being the Weapon without – Those ones from our father’s house, from our mother’s house.
They are very Powerful – They have Power.
Let’s say we have to fight against the United States of America; it looks insurmountable, right?
Okay, let’s say that one State in Nigeria is fighting against another State. Then we have the Military Personnel from both States. And a Particular State is able to Plant Spies in the Opponent’s Camp – I hope you know that Battle is won already.
We use to say, the enemy within is Stronger than the one outside.
So if you are going to pull down Strong holds, it must begin with the Enemies within.
2 Corinthians 10:5 mentioned the Strong holds:
Casting down Imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the Knowledge of God, and bringing into Captivity every thought to the Obedience of Christ;
So the strong hold there is, “Imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the Knowledge of God.”
God has said something, but an imagination has risen as a Strong hold, to say otherwise.
The Weapons or our Warfare (The Word of God) are not Carnal, but Mighty through God to the Pulling down of Strong holds… And bringing into Captivity every thought to the Obedience of Christ;
Meaning, Christ has brought forth Victory, but something around my Life is refusing to obey that Victory.
So as Gate Protectors, one of our responsibilities is to Capture thoughts – Capture those high things.
It means you have to Pay Attention to God’s Word.
You can be a Believer for ten (10) years, yet remain under Bondage of Satan. Not because he is Powerful, but because he had been able to put you in a Place you are not aware of who God calls you.
If you don’t do anything at all as a Believer, Please make sure you spend time with God’s Word and in Prayer.
Satan knows:
- My People Perish because they don’t have Power? No.
- My People Perish because they don’t Pray well? No.
My People are destroyed for lack of Knowledge: because thou hast rejected Knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no Priest to me: (DMC NOTES: Hosea 4:6)
Gate Protectors, the Lord has Placed us at various Gates – It is not to win Victories; It is to Enforce Victory.
What do you know about the Victory of the Gate you have been Placed?
You say you have been Placed at the Gate of Media; Placed at the Gate of Technology – What does God say about Media?
Everything is in the Word of God.
There is no Knowledge you seek that is Outside the Scripture – The Scripture is very necessary in your field.
If you spend time with the Word of God, spend time in Prayer; then you have no business focusing on Satan because the guy has been defeated!
Rise up somebody, let us Pray in this Place.
PRAYER
Quickly, hold the hand of your Neighbour and say: Lord; I ask that from Today, just like the Apostles, I will give myself to the Word of God and to Prayers.
No longer will Satan deceive me.
No longer will I be Placed under the tricks of the Enemy.
I will rise up from Today to understand the Power that God has given to me.
To understand the Victory that God has given me in Christ.
Never again will I be defeated!
