OPENING PRAYER
Almighty God, Maker of Heaven and Earth; the One who spoke and there was Light – We Worship You.
We Thank You for giving us yet another Sunday. Father, Please accept our Thanks in Jesus’Name.
Father, we are Praying that on this Particular Day; in the lives of all Your Children, You will do something New, You will satisfy our hungers and you will let Your Name be Glorified.
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
We will be continuing with our Series on Going Higher, as we move on to Part 48 – Going Higher (Part 48).
And our Bible Text remains the same 1 Kings 19: 5-8.
- And as he (That is Elijah) lay and slept under a Juniper tree, behold, then an Angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
- And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
- And the Angel of the LORD came again the Second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the Journey is too great for thee.
- And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the Strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the Mount of God.
Elijah has asked God to end his Life.
Instead, God caused him to Sleep – And he must have been Pretty tired and sent an Angel to bring him food.
The Angel brought him food, he ate it and fell asleep Promptly again.
And the Angel came the Second time and woke him up and told him to eat and he ate the Second time.
And then he travelled in the Strength of that Meal for forty (40) Days and forty (40) Nights unto Horeb, the Mount of God.
The Question that we want to ask this Particular Day is: What is your Menu List? What are you Hungry for?
Here we see that God without any doubt is the Best Cook and the Best Dietitian.
Psalms 23:5 confirms that God is a “Great Cook” – Thou Preparest a Table before me in the Presence of my Enemies.
The Cooking of God can be so Good that even when Enemies are Present; you ignore them because you just want to eat that food.
And God in His Words advice us on what to eat and how much of it to eat!
For Example, in Proverbs 24:13; He advices us to eat Honey – He said: Eat Honey for it is Good.
But then in the same Proverbs 25:27; He said: Don’t eat too much of it (Honey) – He said that too much Honey is not Good.
God tells us to enjoy Honey but He said that: Son, do it in Moderation.
As a matter of fact, He said in the same Proverbs 25:16 – He said: Just eat sufficient of Honey because you eat too much of it, you will vomit it.
Isn’t God Good?
As a matter of fact, the Bible tells us in Mark 1:6 that the food of John The Baptist was Locust and Honey.
In Daniel 1: 12-15; the Bible tells us that when David, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego said that they won’t eat the King’s Meat, they won’t drink his Wine; they asked for beans and water. And that was what they were eating.
And the Bible said that they look even more handsome than those who are eating the King’s Meat and drinking the King’s Wine.
… God is a Good Cook and He is a Dietitian!
This is important because what you eat can determine your Future!
We are talking of Going Higher – If you are going to reach the Heights; you need to Pay attention to what you eat because if you eat Poison, you will die before you reach any Height at all.
2 Kings 4: 38-41 – Some Sons of the Prophets sat before Elisha and they needed food and the Man of God said that: Go ahead, Prepare food.
And as they were Preparing the food; there was Somebody who unknowingly went out and brought things that were Poisonous and added it to the Pot.
When it was time to eat and the Sons of the Prophets tasted the food; they didn’t say: Oh, this is Poisonous. They say: There is death in the Pot.
… You eat the wrong thing, you can die!
And if you die as a Son of the Prophet, that means that you will never become a Prophet.
In Genesis 25: 28-34; Esau ate when he should have controlled his Appetite – And it destroyed his Future.
Because when in Genesis 27: 1-40; when his father would have blessed him, he was away and Somebody else takes the Blessing before he returned.
Bible Scholars believed even though there is no real Proof but very Good Guess that the Bible says that just as Jacob was getting out of the Presence of father, Esau came in.
Bible Scholars believed that he Prepared the food for his father; decided to taste the food and ended up eating as much as he wanted before bringing the Original food to the father.
In the Process of eating; the Blessings was Pouring on his brother.
Bible Scholars believed that if he has brought the food as soon as it was ready; he wouldn’t have lost his Blessings.
And God gives advice in His Words what you should eat if you are to reach the Great Height.
- 1 Peter 2:2 says: You are to drink the Milk of the Word of God – As New babes desires the sincere Milk of the Word of God, that you may grow thereby.
… You want to grow Spiritually, God said that the Milk you should drink is the Word of God!
In Matthew 4: 1-4; the Lord Jesus Christ told the devil – It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every Words that Proceeds out of the mouth of God.
What should be on your Menu List if you want to grow Spiritually – It should be the Word of God!
Jeremiah 15:16 says: Your Words were found and I ate them and they were to me Joy and Rejoicing of heart.
… The Word of God is food – Pleasant food, Spiritual food.
Psalms 119:9 says: Wherewith will a Young Man makes his Way. It says by Paying heeds to thy Word.
… You want to grow Spiritually as a Young Man; eat the Word!
- Romans 10:17 tells us that when you are eating the Word, you will grow in Faith – Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God will Produce Faith in you.
And Faith will lead to a lot of Progress.
We are talking about growing Spiritually – How do we know a Man who has been growing Spiritually?
It is by the amount of Faith, which in turn is determined by the amount of the Word of God he has eaten!
When you have grown in Faith, you are Promoted to such a Level that you can achieve absolutely anything!
Mark 9:23; Jesus Christ said: If only you can believe, all things are Possible to him that believes.
You want to be in the Class of those who can do absolutely anything, get Faith
How do you get Faith?
I. Eat the Word of God!
And you don’t just look at the Word of God, you don’t just Skip over it; you eat it – It’s your Menu!
When you eat the Word and you grow in Faith, then you can move any Mountain.
Mark 11: 22-24 – If you have Faith in God and you say to any Mountain be moved, be thou cast into the sea; it will obey you.
When you have Faith, then you begin to Please God – Hebrews 11:6 says: Without Faith, it is Impossible to Please God!
II. How do you get Faith? – Faith comes by hearing, hearing the Word of God.
A. When you have Faith, you have the Ability to live Holy!
You want to grow? You want to get to Great Heights? – The Word of God made it clear that you want to climb the Mountain of God, you want to dwell in His Holy Hill then you must be Holy!
And the Bible says in Romans 14:23 that whatever is not Faith is sin.
… You want to live Holy? You must have Faith!
As a matter of fact; in Psalms 119:11 – David said that thy Word have I hid in my heart so that I may not sin against You.
You want to live Holy? – You memorised the Word, you eat it, you digest it, you absorb it.
B. Faith Produces Wisdom.
Remember that Faith comes by the Word.
How? – Because Wisdom is the Correct Application of Knowledge.
What you learnt in the Word of God, you apply it correctly; then you are Wise.
Matthew 7: 24-27; Jesus Christ said: I want to compare two (2) People – “The Wise” and “The Fool”.
He said that “The Wise One” is the the one who heard my Words and then begin to apply it. He said that he is like the Man who built his house on the Rock – He said that this Man will stand any Storm. He will just remain Solid because the Rain is going to fall, the Flood is going to come – It’s a matter of time.
And when the Flood comes; and it beats on the House that is built on the Rock; it will Stand.
He says that “The Fool” is the one who heard the Word and do Nothing about it – He does not apply it.
Not too long ago, I was explaining to my children – Wisdom is the correct Application of Knowledge. And I gave them a Practical Example.
You are travelling on a road that you have not travelled before and then you see a Sign that says: “Narrow Bridge” ahead.
As soon as you see the Sign, you have acquired Knowledge. What you do after that will determine whether you are Wise or Foolish.
If you are Wise, as soon as you see that there is a “Narrow Bridge” ahead; you will slow down because the Bridge might not be big enough to take two (2) Vehicles at the same time.
If you are Foolish, you will say: So what? “Narrow Bridge” ahead? Who cares! I am an International Driver.
And then you increase your Speed and you get to the Bridge and find a Truck already blocking the Bridge. Then you have to decide how you want to die – Either through Head-On Collision or by drowning in the River below.
That is why the Bible says in Proverbs 4:7 – Wisdom is the Principal Thing; get Wisdom.
Wisdom comes by obtaining of Knowledge; Knowledge comes through the Word of God!
The Elders has a Saying: It is what the Bird eats that it uses to fly!
Luke 6:45 says that: Out of the Abundance of the Heart the mouth speaks.
How much of the Word that you have consumed, that you have memorised is going to come to Play when you have to face the devil!
And as you have learnt earlier on, the devil is a very “Persistent Enemy”.
If all of a sudden, you find yourself maybe a bit ill; the devil is going to come to tell you that you are about to die.
The Word that you have already memorised will come out and say: No, I will not die; I will live and declare the works of God – Psalms 118:17.
If you have Nothing in you, when the enemies come against you and it says: I think in that Meeting you went to, you must have contacted coronavirus, you are about to die.
The Word that is within you will rise up and say as it’s recorded in Isaiah 54:17 – No weapon formed against me shall Prosper.
It will tell the devil – Try your hardest, no weapon formed against me shall Prosper.
So, the Question then is: What is on your own Menu List? What are you Hungry for?
I. Is it food all the time?
Remember 1 Corinthians 6:13; the Bible says: Meat for the belly, belly for the Meat; both of them shall be destroyed.
Physical Food is for your Flesh – Sooner or later, dust will return to dust!
II. Is it Silver and Gold that you are Hungry for?
Ecclesiastes 5:10 says: Sorry, you will never be satisfied.
If that is your food – That you are just Hungry for Money; you will never have enough.
A. Remember Matthew 26: 14-16 – Judas Iscariot has to choose either Money or Jesus Christ.
They offered him Thirty (30) Pieces of Silver and he was looking for an opportunity to sell Jesus Christ.
B. Consider 2 Kings 5: 20-27 – Gehazi has an opportunity of becoming the “Greatest Prophet” of the Old Testament but his hunger was for Money.
He got Money and got Leprosy with it.
III. Is it Heaven or the Wealth of the world.
Matthew 16:26 says: What does it Profit a Man if he gains the whole world and loses his own Soul.
IV. You Probably wondered why some People keep on Studying the Word of God.
Every time the door of the Church is opened, they are there – They are there on Sunday, Monday, during the Midweek Services and then return back on Sunday.
… They are just coming!
Why? – Coming to just eat the Word.
Why? – Psalms 92: 12-14 made it clear: They that shall be Planted in the House of the Lord shall Flourish.
What is it that is on your Menu List? What are Hungry for? – It is going to determine whether you are going to Flourish or Dry Up!
ALTAR CALL
That is why I’m giving you an opportunity – Those of you who has not surrendered your Life to Jesus Christ: Hey, you need Jesus Christ.
He Himself is the Word – John 1: 1 and 14.
- In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father,) full of Grace and Truth.
You need the Word – And that is Jesus Christ. So, if you want Him, He is available for you today!
So, if you will cry to Him and say: Jesus Christ, I need You to dwell in me. I don’t want to live by Bread alone, I want to live You.
Cry to Him now, He will save your Soul, I will Pray with you and you will begin to grow.
Let Us Pray!
PRAYER FOR SALVATION AND CLOSING PRAYER
My Father and my God, I want to bless Your Holy Name – I want to give You all the Glory, Honour and Adoration for Your Words.
I want to Thank You for all those who are determined by now to make You their Principal Menu – Those of you who wants to surrender their lives to You.
Father, Please receive them, save their Souls, receive them into the Family of God and begin to feed them so that they can begin to Flourish.
In Jesus Mighty Name we have Prayed – Amen.
